Where’s Mummy?

My mind is all about my upcoming trip to Kentucky for work this week and taking TD to the doctor to see what we can do about the tantrums.  So far we've developed pie charts.  Don't laugh.  It's true. We sat her down on Sunday and drew diagrams of how her tantrums effect the house and don't give her what she wants.  The pie charts showed her the time she has in the day and the activities she has as well as how it works for us, her parents.  It seemed to sink in better than us just yammering away at her.  We'll see.  I'm crossing every finger and toe right now and saying a bunch of huge prayers that we have jumped over this giant hurdle.Other than all that- whew!- I'm busy with another giveaway at MPR. It's all about spring renewal- with nail polish, body … [Read more...]

Honest Baby Celebrates Imperfect Parenting Which is Everyone’s Style

Most of you know that I write for Honest Baby.  I discovered this website as a new parent and quickly grew to love the community and its creators.  The adorably funny t-shirts didn't hurt either.  I scooped up one for TD proclaiming, "I am not a performing monkey."  After posting quite a bit on their fledgling site the founder asked me to write for them.  Years later, I'm still there enjoying its content, reviews and the other writers like Jason from Outnumbered and Sex and the Sippy Cup that I think are way more talented and funny than me.  In honor of Honest Baby's (where it is all about imperfect parenting) four year anniversary they are holding their first time evah Twitter party  (details!) tonight (March 31) from 8-9 pm … [Read more...]

Got Blog Block? Me too.

I'm suffering blog block right now.  I'm not about to write about four year-old party excess or how I'm still so stinkin' tired everyday.  Somehow I still prevail and write elsewhere though and not about what I typically write on here.  OK, just a little bit but go ahead, venture out and read me somewhere else.  It is fine, I swear.Read about my ability to make ears at Honest Baby. The Thirty Second Vacation

I once heard the comedian Louis C.K. (he's not for everyone, I'll admit.) say that every parent gets a thirty second vacation. It's that brief moment when you have buckled them into their car seat, shut the door and walk over to your own seat. In that small window of time there is silence from the incessant toddler chatter and it is a little bit of heaven. A thirty second vacation.Between the yelling of poo-poo pants (inside the bathroom only, but still...), non-stop questions that she has asked everyday, at the same time and just the noise. Oh, the noise. It never ends. I might just put the kids in the car and start circling it. You know, check the tires, my pockets, make sure my side mirrors are in the correct position and basically just get a few laps in. I'll crack the windows. Don't … [Read more...]
