When H started using Trunk Club last year I was instantly jealous. A GINORMOUS box full of quality, stylish clothing and shoes was delivered to his door with at least ten items to choose from and all pre-approved by him. What the…? We don’t have those choices in the women’s box subscriptions. Plus, I hate shopping with him but having him try stuff on in our bedroom was ridiculously easy and fun. I wanted a Trunk Club box of my own!
Wish granted!
My first box from my stylist Gretchen arrived last week and I hauled it inside with great excitement. I knew was was inside because the preview email was sent a few days earlier and now I just had to open it, try everything on and I had TEN DAYS in which to make my decisions. Here’s what was inside:
Rag and Bone Scoop Neck Cotton Shirt/7 for All Mankind ‘Tailorless’ Dojo Jeans/Michael Kors ‘Linsday’Ballet Flat/Equipment ‘Kenton’ Embroidered Banana Button Down/Michael Kors ‘Fulton’ Moccasin
I asked Gretchen for a lot of basics. Wide-leg jeans, ballet flats in black and a vibrant color plus a good basic white t-shirt. Aside from a warehouse mistake sending me red and coral flats, she was right on with her selections. I don’t like shoes with the designers monogram so as comfy as they both were they went back in the box with the jeans and white shirts. I don’t do bananas.
Stem Flowy Lightweight Pink Tee/Equipment ‘Mila’ Sleeveless Shirt
While both shirts were high quality, ultra-soft and not bad looking, neither was my personal style. Back into the box.
Joie ‘Oden’ Blouse/Burberry Brit Cotton Denim Shirt/Equipment ‘Daddy’ Ticking Button Down/Rag and Bone Cotton
I liked this first striped blouse just OK. It wasn’t entirely me. The Burberry Denim shirt was too casual in texture to be my next crisp white button down. The search continues! The over-sized striped shirt from Equipment had a sheen to it that I just knew I was never going to look good in. I put the cotton tee on again. It was SO SOFT.
Rails ‘Hunter’ Plaid Shirt/Splendid ‘Sunfaded’ Ombre Striped Shirt
Oh, you know I love a good plaid and stripe. I can never say no. Both of these shirts were so ridiculously soft to the touch. But, I couldn’t justify the off-season with the plaid or the $88 price for the striped shirt. Not when I have so many. Sigh. I hated putting them back in the box. I’m already wishing I had held onto that plaid shirt.
Louise et Cie ‘Jael’ Embossed Bag/Rebecca Minkoff ‘Mini Perry’ Satchel/Kate Spade ‘Cedar Street Hayden’ Bag
I told Gretchen about my deep desire for a black structured bag that wasn’t “mommy” sized. She nailed it as far as options and color. How was she to know that I really dislike the shape of the Rebecca Minkoff bag in any purse or that the square shape of the Kate Spade purse was too reminiscent of the bags all sorority girls on my college campus carried in the late 90s. I don’t think I will ever want that bag again. Been there, done that. Now, that first one? The Louise et Cie. GORGEOUS. And maybe, if I hadn’t just spent a small fortune on a Kirby vacuum I could have bought it. But the tassle threw me off and I couldn’t pull the trigger. I realize I am tough to please.
Overall, I loved my Trunk Club experience even if I did not keep any of the items. Why?
- I thought my stylist, Gretchen listened and sent all the right things, especially for a first time.
- THERE IS NO MONTHLY FEE for Trunk Club. That’s right, you heard me. No fee like the other box subscriptions. My thinking is that since it was for men originally they dropped the fee idea because it would inhibit guys from signing up. It’s true. When I told my husband that my versions of Trunk Club all have fees and how they work he scoffed, “I would never waste my money. $20 or $49 or whatever it is. I want to keep it.” Trunk Club sends it all out with no fee.
- The box it comes in is what you send everything back in. No need to cram it into a bag. No cost to you either.
- Your stylist will call you to chat before your first box. She’ll send emails with a preview and let you know when it has shipped. Enough contact to keep you in the loop but not too much to be annoying.
- Like other services you just click on what you want to keep or return and schedule a pick up, no problem!
I’m eager to go again but maybe at a slightly lower price point and a bit more getting to know each other.

How much a month does the Trunk Club cost and do you have to keep any of the items they send you? Love the sleeveless Equipment blouse but truly I am drooling over all the luscious black bags and both pairs of red MK flats are gorgeous! I want them both!
Don’t forget to link up with me tomorrow, pretty mamma. Thanks. Happy Hump Day!

I really love the idea behind all of those boxes. And I think they’ve sent you some great items. But I also agree to not keep stuff that isn’t entirely convincing you, especially since Trunk Box is a higher price point on average. That said, my favorite here is definitely the plaid shirt.

Love the fact there is no styling fee. It makes it easier to say yes to a subscription. You got some great things to choose from!

Oh I really liked that plaid shirt and that pink shirt on you! How fun getting a trunk full of clothes. I wonder how many people keep things vs, return, how are they making money, whatever it is, so cool. I think I need to try this! Do you pick your price point?

Thanks for sharing this! Such an appealing service, who doesn’t want a personal shopper? I imagine I’d be similar to you in reacting and keeping the pieces. Defiantly worthwhile, though!
