The Mummy Chronicles celebrates its ELEVENTH birthday this month, which I guess makes me older than dirt in the blogging world. When I saw this ’10 Things’ post by Johanna a few weeks ago it reminded me of the old-school blogging days and my Generation X desperate need for nostalgia kicked in and I knew I wanted to do it too. Did you know that back in the day we used to weekly themes on our blogs as a group? We still do!
TMC was once a very personal blog about pregnancy and motherhood with reviews thrown in. Over time it evolved into a lifestyle space. So here goes without further fanfare and a look beyond the curtain that isn’t about an ootd-
10 Things You Might Not Know About Me
- Car blogging fell into my lap courtesy of a fellow blogger and reader who worked in the industry. I always had a weird love for my own cars, but never knew I could get super intense about driving or the car industry, until she asked me to go on a media junket back in 2007.
- I never thought I would get married or have kids. Now I live in suburbia with three kids, a house and a fenced yard that holds in a giant dog. I have some deeply-rooted issues with guys and personal safety that made me think I would never find someone who tolerated my safety issues or dark sense of humor let alone could make me think kids was a good idea. I sometimes think H deserves a medal for dealing with all that on a daily basis.
- I put easter egg style links into most of my posts. I’ve been doing it since the very beginning and I know that most readers never clue into them, but it still brings me joy to stick them in there.
- I’ve had post-partum depression twice and sometimes I still feel guilt over how hard it was for me to bond with my first child.
- I hate buying shoes. There, I said it. A fashion blogger who hates buying shoes.
- I believe in ghosts. The ‘Sixth Sense’ made me feel like my childhood was normal.
- I love television, movies, and comic books so much I could create a whole other blog about them. I devour comic blogs and websites and wait for my Entertainment Weekly to arrive in my mailbox each week like a kid waiting for Santa. Maybe a podcast is better? #totalgeek
- I love history whether it is the history of hip hop or a look at the the growth of the tenements in New York City after the Civil War. I am game to read a book or watch a documentary on it and then fall down a rabbit hole of research on the internet later.
- I was not athletic growing up but after meeting H I grew to love being fit and now I work out almost daily just to feel less anxiety and stress.
- Lately, I wonder what the hell I’m doing over here and with writing in general. What started as a way to talk about motherhood and write without judgement has grown into something more. The idea of writing an actual book is what I really want to do but letting go of TMC is something I can’t quite figure out yet. Now that I work with H on our own company I feel torn over doing a job that people understand over one that they don’t. I have to let both go to write the book and that seems really out of reach.
