Sabotage and Some Damn Good Times

When Sarah told me that Adam Yauch (MCA) from the Beastie Boys had passed away we were at Mom 2.0 finishing up lunch.  “Well, this just sucks.” I thought eloquently.  Then I went to my room and got mad at the hotel internet connection as I tried to watch ‘Sabotage’ on YouTube.  That video used to make my f*ckin’ day when it first debuted.

I drove my freshman year roommate nuts with the Ill Communication CD. I placed both my giant stereo speakers on either side of my twin (got have the extra long sheets!) bed and would blast ‘Sure Shot’, ‘Sabotage’ and more while alternating the sound of bag pipes and House of Pain.  Yeah, I was that roommate.  I’m sure she wanted me dead. We’re friends on Facebook now.

I loved that the Beastie Boys were there for me in high school, college and beyond.  Oh, beyond.  What parent doesn’t play ‘No Sleep ‘Till Brooklyn’ when it gets insane in the car?  I can’t be the only one who loves to wake up to ‘Intergalactic‘ many mornings.  ‘Make Some Noise’ is at the top of my run play list almost all the time. It’s number two on my half-marathon mix. I feel an almost evil, twitchy smile come over my face each time I run to it and sweat pours down me.

Then I hear from Laurie on The Facebook last night that the world has lost Chuck Brown?  Ugh.  Really? Another great one down and gone from us. If you don’t know Chuck Brown, he is a DC legend, you probably know his music.  You can’t walk through parts of DC and not think of Chuck Brown.

And now Donna Summer?  Man! I have vivid memories of dancing in my parents living room to ‘She Works Hard for the Money’. With leg warmers naturally.  What wedding hasn’t closed with Last Dance?  I’m quite sure ours did.    I’m a disco freak after all.  Disco was about all I wanted played at my wedding. When my time comes disco will be played at my funeral.

Donna Summer reminds me of being a kid in my parents car.  She makes me remember running with a Walkman.

There was Bad Girls!

Hot Stuff!

All of them classics.

Toot, toot! Beep, beep, baby!

The month of May better end quick because I can’t take losing anymore music greats.

P.S. I did the ‘Ed Lover dance’ for my kids today and they threw macaroni and cheese at me.  Kids these days…

I think that people that don’t like the Beastie Boys have no soul. Or they have never actually listened to the Beastie Boys.

Kids have no respect for excellent dancing.

    Banjo!

Totally! The Beastie Boys make a party, a run, a car ride or anything!

      Banjo! Right back at ya!

The other day that song came on the radio (WPGC at noon, baby! Best time to listen!) and I wanted to turn to you and yell, “It’s DJ Kool, Sarah!!”

Billy Idol is totally hot in this picture. It’s one of the top reasons I chose it.
