As I stood looking at a Blogher booth display of lace thong style wick-away underpants this weekend I said aloud, “Wow. These would be great for my half-marathon training!” Another blogger next to me exclaimed, “Oh! I’m training for my first half! Which one are you doing?”
It’s done. It’s settled. I’m doing the Hershey Half Marathon on Oct. 21, 2012. I said it before when I finished my first half-marathon in May that I would do another one. Then my knee got the best of me, I didn’t run for months and I sort of hoped that no one would remember that I ever said those words. Except that I remembered and I do love a challenge. Plus, it is Hershey! It is the “Sweetest Place on Earth!” There are chocolate aid stations! You know, to keep us all motivated and energized and such.
The training will begin this month, I will do the same Hal Higdon schedule I did the last time around. I will just start at week three. It takes time, focus and a real drive to do this type of thing and I know with the summer activities, the start of school and a surprise trip for the kids to the “greatest place on earth” in early October I have a lot of excuses on why I can’t train, shouldn’t take this on or whatever other reason I could throw out there but that my friends, is actually unreasonable. It’s excuses. It’s lethargy. And even without being drunk at CheeseburgHer I can still get on you like a Capuchin monkey and yell drill instructor style about no excuses when it comes to working out. I’m a bit of a pain that way, I know. I hate excuses. They achieve nothing but guilt.
Who wants that when you can run a half-marathon, am I right?
So stay tuned, I will be posting more about my training and the Hershey Half Marathon that benefits the Children’s Miracle Network.
