What We Are Reading Right Now

I will fully cop to the fact that I pick up seasonally appropriate books for the kids at the library each year. I also pull any turkey, fall or Thanksgiving-related books off their bedroom bookshelves and out front and center to read at bed and nap times.  I do the same thing for Christmas, Halloween, Easter and birthdays.  I’m kind of a freak.  If I were to let it go further I would place them all in a basket in the living room as well.  Crazy, much?  Yes, I think that is.

Right now the Christmas books are being pulled out whether I’m ready to read them or not.  This one is our latest and greatest.

 FOR THE KIDS

Chronicle books has a customized version of Clement Clarke Moore’s historic poem, “Twas the Night Before Christmas” ($34.99).  The book is personalized to your child which puts them right into the story.  We read this book often this time of year and I love that now we have a copy that is centered on our youngest girl complete with our dog’s name, our town and a few other personal tidbits.  There is even a spot for a dedication and photo of her in the book.  She loves that!

FOR THE GROWN FOLK

I’m enjoying Fosse (affiliate link) by Sam Wasson.  I have a bit of an obsession over Fosse.  When I heard about the book on NPR a few weeks back I immediately downloaded it to my Kindle and hoped it wouldn’t be another dry read.  I love me a good, juicy biography but lately the ones I have looked over leave me with a glazed eye, gloss over feel.  So far, I’m about 1/4 of a way through and it has me ditching all magazines and other books that have been waiting in the wings. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about Bob Fosse’s life from childhood on up.  It’s funny, sad and full of drama and darkness.  So totally Fosse! Jazz hands included.

You know I just had to watch All That Jazz again and marvel over the closeness to his real life.

A movie about dance that features Roy Schneider perpetually smoking a cigarette?  I’m IN!!

Then I drive my family nuts with the song, “On Broadway”, which just makes me think of all the Saturday’s I spent as a kid in tights whiling the hours away in a dance studio wishing I could master his moves and style to perfection.
