Getting my miles back one at a time.
It’s been a while since I have done a fitness post. That doesn’t mean I have been kicking back and not working out. That is not my style. It just means I have been squeezing in a lot of different workouts and trying new things. Hello, Ballet Barre! You make my hamstrings sing! Now that the weather is nicer I have started running again.
Getting back into running means a number of things for me, like the fact that I have a race on Sunday at the old prison and I just can’t stop saying to people, “Sorry, I’m busy on Sunday. I’m running at the prison!” Relax. It is no longer housing the county’s top inmates. It is now a converted art space with a museum. I’m also desperate to find new spring and summer running gear.
My body has changed in the last year. What I wore last spring no longer fits. I want to branch out in my style too. No more basic black running capri pants for me! It is time for color and maybe a pattern or two. A more supportive sports bra wouldn’t hurt either. The problem is that I’m done with buying workout clothes in the usual places. I don’t want to sign up for a monthly service either. I love the Relay Run tank and Ultra Run bra from Sweaty Betty. The clothes strike a great mix of style with function that appeals to me. There are cute running skirts too. I should pick one up since this prison run is costumed and I’m going as one of the suffragists imprisoned there during the 1900s. I like to mix my culture with my workouts don’t you know.
As I get back into running, get a bit older and live the life of a busy, working mother of three I need to incorporate more than just cardio and weights into my fitness regime. So many times I forget to stretch or just don’t spend enough time on it because someone needs my attention. It is only me that suffers in the end. I have started scheduling yoga into my weekly routine. ‘Yoga for Athletes’ with a shot of YouTube yoga sessions has me feeling focused, stretched and sometimes even relaxed in a pinch. The more time I make for it the more I see results and a better attitude. That’s always a plus.
Are you doing something new to stay in or get in shape? Where do you like to shop for workout wear?
