Running Scared

What do DC Runners do to celebrate the month of October and the fabulous fall season? We take part in the ghoulishly fun twilight run at the Congressional Cemetery, naturally.

I’m long overdue for a fitness post and the Dead Man’s Run is the perfect way to throw one in. It’s a race I have wanted to do since it began four years ago for a lot of reasons.

1. It’s a twilight run in a cemetery. Could that be any more fun? Um, no. Unless it was totally dark.
2. Proceeds go towards the upkeep of this fantastic final resting place. J. Edgar Hoover, state senators and many more reside here. One day, I might too.
3. The pressure of a run is significantly reduced when disco music and Michael Jackson tunes are being pumped through the air as a zombie walking a dog glides by. Volunteers dressed as “residents” of the cemetery make appearances throughout the 5k as well. Watch out for the fake rats along the course!

In truth, I’ve been real lax lately in my training. The runs have been short. As in, under 3 miles. The desire to push myself and do tougher workouts hasn’t been there. My mind is filled with other things like all the projects in our house that need to be done by the end of the month. Those are so physical and they end up taking what little energy I have left from work, being a mom and a wife and everything else that is thrown into a typical week. But running with friends, on a gorgeously chill fall night was just the motivation I needed to get back out there.

I only needed a little TLC when it was all said and done.

And mainly because that clown scared the bejeezus out of me.

What was needed was a long hot bath to soak my tired bones and relax my tight muscles.  Into the tub I went with a bit of my latest beauty acquisition, Suave Moroccan Infusion Body Wash added to the warm water.  Tiny bubbles and a delightful scent of Argan oil helped me unwind from my nocturnal jaunt.  It was just what I needed.  When I was done I used the accompanying Suave Moroccan Infusion Dry Body Oil Spray.  I have the Moroccan Infusion Body Lotion that I use daily but I really like the non-greasy formula of the Dry Body Oil Spray.  I rub it in and its like giving myself a mini-massage.  Perfect for post-run and it doesn’t ruin my sheets when I collapsed into bed about five minutes later.  Bliss.  Soft-scented bliss.
