It’s almost March which means it is almost spring. Thank goodness! While I hibernated through the snow in January and embraced the pink and red hues in early to mid-February baking a delicious molten chocolate cake with raspberries. I stayed indoors, read a lot, curled up by the fire and encased in blankets. I did my daily skincare routine, I exercised throughout the months and stayed hydrated. However, I noticed that no matter what moisturizer I used in the morning, hydrating anti-aging serum, or night cream, my skin was dry and peeling. This was especially true around my mouth.

I decided to get a hydrating facial in January. Nada. Still dry and flaky. Then again in February but the same results happened. I even added a heavier night cream, stopped using my morning facial cleanser with charcoal, but it wasn’t until I added a new serum that felt like it might have done the trick. A skin-tightening cream that I decided to use it around my laugh lines took away the flaky skin. Magic! The dryness was gone in two days. I no longer feel like my face is itchy or tight during the day and I think the lines in my neck are decreasing. I’ve been putting the skin-tightening serum there too. Call me surprised and impressed.
I still have not added in my charcoal cleanser and I’m sticking with my oil based daily cleanser at night. It helps to melt off my makeup and it a nice way to massage my face at the end of the day. Once that’s done I add my anti-aging serum, my night cream, and a lip butter (one of my all-time favorite products) that stays put all night and I wake up feeling hydrated instead of dry and cracked like before.
Now that I have solved this problem it is on to working on the increasingly dry skin on my legs and feet. I swear the legs are the latest in perimenopausal problems. I moisturize morning and night both after my shower and before bed and I still get to work and feel like I am going to shred my pants from scratching. I’ve tried coconut oil, Cerave, and even moisturizers meant for eczema. Nothing is helping. I give up at this point and will wait for warmer weather with the humidity that comes with living below the Mason-Dixon line.
What do you do for winter skin problems? Have you tried any new products this season that you are loving? Please share!
