When... you wipe your partner's hands down after they finish eating. When... you no longer kiss goodnight, but instead say, "nigh, nigh." When... your life is scheduled via emails. When... the only conversation you have all day is as you are drifting off to sleep and it's 8:45 p.m. That conversation? It involves mumbling, something about an oil change, and then snoring. Keeping the fires burning always involves some sort of wine imbibed on my part. Actual dinner and conversation without chicken being thrown, the waiter smiling through his teeth, and having to pick up a certain plastic spoon off the floor for the millionth time are definitely NOT involved. So a glass of wine at a wine bar downtown mall Charlottesville, perhaps dining al fresco, and actually piecing together a … [Read more...]
Back to Reality
How is it that in span of less than 60 seconds the phone can ring, I burn myself with hot wax (and sadly nothing even remotely kinky was going on), T.D. falls off the bed and manages to eat a nice mouthful of diaper cream? How? I guess it was just the universe's way of welcoming me back to reality. Whoo hoo!It slushed here today which just makes me want to stay under the covers of my own bed even more. It was so nice to get into MY bed after a week away. I'm a weirdo about my bed and sheets so it's always the one thing I miss the most when traveling. I have to say it was nice to be away and feel like me again. Not someone's Mom or wife. Just me. I shopped without time limits, ate whatever, got hit on a few times, and ingested far too much salt and sugar than should be allowed. I'm … [Read more...]
Mommy’s Time Out

We Mom's sure are in the news these days. The cocktail playdate debate continues and just yesterday the Washington Post ran this article about Mom's playing Bunco on 'Mom's Night Out' and having a sip or two of chardonnay. The wine shown was actually the wine pictured above. Yes, ladies it really does exsist. Isn't it fabulous? First, 'Mad Housewife' wine now this one. I love it. It's kitschy yeah but who cares. It's like the perfect joke gift to give a Mom on your block. Anyway, I digress, sort of, this whole debate about Mom's drinking on playdates or even drinking after the wee ones go to bed is so hot right now and I think it's nuts. It's as if women should be above drinking and we should always comport ourselves in some unrealistic stepford type way. I don't know about you, but … [Read more...]
Toilet Blocks-They’re All the Rage

Spending time at home with T.D. leaves me with this thought. It's no wonder there are so many momtrepenuers out there these days. Sandwich shape cutters, tagged blankets, and whatever else is now out there all came from stay at home moms. Just yesterday T.D. decided that her new favorite toy is the toilet. Yup. The toilet. Joy, those days are now upon us. She wants to beat the seat with her hands or preferably a wooden block. It makes such a great loud sound to her. Oh and did I mention that blocks are really fun to throw in the toilet too? Yeah. Oodles. Made me think as I tried to fish the wooden blocks out of the bowl and figure out how to clean these things correctly, disposable blocks perhaps? So cute and squishy on dry land. Foam filled and fun to play with. Dissolves … [Read more...]
Sick of It!
I've had enough! Enough with the media blitz and the whole issue of the "Mommy Wars". I am even sick of seeing it in quotations like that. Reading through Izzy Mom's post today (and I too call BULLSH*T on all that crap) I just got so irritated with this whole idea of Mommy Wars. Is it real? Do we care? I don't. Not anymore. What I care about is the judging. You know me, I'm all about that crap. I can't stand it. I loathe when other women sit back on their self-made pedestals and judge other mom's for stupid stuff they know nothing about. To see that piece on the 'Today' show about Mom's who drink during playdates just made me think- do we have nothing better to do? Is that what it really boils down to? This whole Mommy Wars "issue" (heh) is striking me as a bunch of women who … [Read more...]
