Today's mission should you choose to accept is to guess which story is true and which one is the April Fool's. It's all part of April's Blog Exchange, though um, we're not really exchanging any one's blog this time... See more stories true or false here. During my freshman year of college a group of girls and I, OK about half my hall, would regularly hang out at a nearby fraternity house. Friday night? We were at the house. Saturday afternoon? Probably playing flip cup and eating pizza at the house. Saturday night? Still at the house. The wee small hours of the morning? You got it. We were at that house. It's not that the guys were especially hot or that they were even that charismatic but for some reason we all took a liking to each other. Then one day as I was sitting on my bed I … [Read more...]
Solid Gold
Gold, gold, gold. Gold bars? Gold Medal? Gold Medal Flour? For the past few days I’ve been trying to think of what “gold” means to me. This was a challenging blog post. An image kept popping into my head and I kept trying to push it out. “Solid Gold”. My formative years were made up of Nixon’s resignation, Carter’s election, the Bicentennial (I made a cute Betsy Ross). Dorothy Hamill won gold in Innsbruck - I had the haircut. The Summer of Sam, NYC blackouts, Reggie Jackson as “Mr. October”.At the root of it all though, I am a child of the disco era. I went through elementary school with a 70’s soundtrack playing in the background. My siblings and I would perform skits to ABBA. We lip-synched and threw in some in some dramatic moves to make it interesting. "Fernando" and "Dancing … [Read more...]
In a Child’s Eye’s

Smiling Mom is on vacation. Here is my version for July's blog Exchange. In a child’s eyes she was more than the woman who could scarily flip her eyelids inside out she was the one and only person who I would eat Total cereal and unsalted potato chips for. In a child’s eyes she made ‘Mystery’ just as much fun to watch as ‘Love Boat’ and the Sunday night Disney movie. In a child’s eyes she made swinging on the porch the only way to spend an afternoon, going to the grocery store an adventure with special treats, and she instilled the fine art of French cooking even the dreaded Buche de Noel.In a child’s eyes she would play endless kiddie bits on the piano for a concert of one. In a child’s eyes it was all in good fun and not the glass ceiling breaking concert pianist that she actually … [Read more...]
Do You See What I See?
Welcome Smiling Mom to my site today for July's Blog Exchange.I thought a lot about July 1st's blog exchange topic, "In my child's eyes." The reality is my life is so busy and fast paced that I often don't slow down and allow myself the time to see, I mean really see, what is important to my kids. So I decided to hand my son a camera and let him take pictures of anything important to him. This is what he saw.Our dog Kayla, one of the most important things to him.His Sister, eClaire. They live to disagree, with moments of pure love and tender moments interspersed. What boy doesn't love his Mac truck? The racetrack. Oh the racetrack. The blanket, "It has big holes and little holes. It' s my blanket." This about sums up my son's favorite things. If his Grandpa was here, he'd of photographed … [Read more...]
Motherhood, nothing like it
May 1st means it's time for The Blog Exchange! Join me in welcoming Jerri Ann from A Crack'n Life as our blog exchange guest today. The theme for this one is of course, Motherhood. You can find me over at her space. Enjoy! You know, you hear all kinds of stuff when you are pregnant, some good, some bad, some just plain ugly. But, you have to decide for yourself what is worth remembering and what is ready for…the trash. One thing that I have heard all my life is in reference to poop. First of all, as a pre-parent, most folks use the profane word for poop. As you near your child’s due date, you find yourself using the word poop more and more often. By the time your child is 3 days old, not only have you used the word poop a lot, you’ve told anyone who will listen about your newborns poop. … [Read more...]
Somber Morning
It's April 1st and that means it's time for the Blog Exchange. The theme this month is our favorite or a memorable post. Please help me welcome, my guest blogger, Crystal from The Longest Year. I wrote this post on a particularly exhausting day during my husband’s second deployment to Iraq – my longest year yet. I had many days I thought I wouldn’t survive the worry. I would learn later, after he returned home safely in November, that there was plenty to be worried about. After all, his own Humvee was hit by a bomb – one of several close calls during that year. This post is now bittersweet for me, as we are soon leaving the Army. My life has been forever changed by our experiences. I never knew there were so many heroes among us. This morning I went to my new Bible study, located at … [Read more...]
Tears in Heaven
It's the first of the month so you know what that means. No, I'm not handing out any free cheese or anything like that. It's Blog Exchange day. This month, I'm working with Des of Diggity Des. The theme is to take a song and write about it. Welcome Des!What would you do if your small child plummeted out of a window to his death? If you are Eric Clapton, you write a song about it and share your grief with the world.Would you know my nameIf I saw you in heaven?Would it be the sameIf I saw you in heaven?I must be strongAnd carry on,'Cause I know I don't belongHere in heaven.Would you hold my handIf I saw you in heaven?Would you help me standIf I saw you in heaven?I'll find my wayThrough night and day,'Cause I know I just can't stayHere in heaven.Time can bring you down,Time can bend your … [Read more...]
Happy February and Happy Blog Exchange Day!
An Inconvenient Truth Tell me, have you heard about this film about theglobal warming? I think the bloke who did it waspresident of America, but I’m not sure. In any case, much like not reading books, I don’t get to the cinemathat often. However I do like to know a bit aboutcurrent events for small chat at fashion shows and thelike. I’ve been thinking a lot about global warming. Imean if you consider the impact our move from Londonto Spain had on me, I reckon that was a bit likeglobal warming. Inconvenient indeed considering allthe chinchilla I’ve had to stow for colder weather. Isimply can’t understand a culture that hasn’t a winterseason. I find four seasons open up such a world ofopportunity in accessorising, with shoes alone you’vegot sling backs for autumn, a right bold pair of … [Read more...]
