Walk the Walk

It's going to be a beautiful weekend here in the DC Metro area and I'm so relieved.  While I may not be walking this year, my teammates The Back of the Pack Walkers, will be taking part in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this weekend.  26 miles for some, almost forty for others. It's quite a challenge and something I am immensely proud of them for.  They have trained through all sorts of weather.  Held fundraisers and raised over $1800 a piece to participate in this monumental, emotional and spirtiual event.  It's amazing. I know, I have done it four times and each time was a different and wonderful experience.  If you want to know more about the Back of the Pack Walkers (some still need to raise the $1800) or the Avon Walk visit here.  There is still … [Read more...]

Happy Earth Day!

It's Earth Day and I feel like I should be telling you to go out and plant a garden today.  How about just taking a walk on your lunch break?  Or getting out with the kids before or after dinner, if weather permits. If it doesn't then play in the rain. I still enjoy that as an adult.  I'm all about being more green.  But you already knew that.  Earth Day is no exception.  I don't even want to tell you how TD reacted when I told her that the recycling company wasn't taking her daily yogurt cups anymore.  The kid has grown up green and saying things like, "sight-kling!" each time we tried to throw things away.  In honor of my kid who wants to either be a Vet, Trash Woman or Earth Doctor, here are some great ways to go green that maybe you hadn't … [Read more...]

Team WhyMommy’s Virtual Science Fair

Susan is a friend of mine and fellow DC blogger and DC Metro Mom. She's the girl who always has a smile on her face and something intelligent to say no matter where we are. I love being around her.  She went in for surgery today.  The cancer is back.  She will fight it and she will beat it.  She has so much love and support and Team WhyMommy Virtual Science Fair is just a small part of that support.  I think Jean from Stimeyland says it best when she states, "We want her to know that she is loved and supported. But we also want her to know that our love and support is not all because of the cancer. We love and support her because of who she is, not just because of what she has. She is not just a cancer fighter, but an incredible person, one who is passionate … [Read more...]

Two Kids, One Mom and a Junk Yard

"Um..yeah, if you could just pick up the plates and EZ-pass at the collision place tomorrow that would be great....." I have now succeeded in making H sound like Lumbergh.  I asked him if there were any other items in the car and he said, "Maybe a box. That's it." So I went to the collision place that offers cash for junk cars today- eesh. On top of going to the grocery store, trying to get some work done- blogging and otherwise, building a volcano, calling the cable company, insurance company, doing laundry, calling garage cleanout in san diego county and cleaning the house.  I'm leaving this week for a business trip and there is loads to do before I head out on Wednesday.  I feel like I'm forgetting something. Right! The kids. I also made sure they didn't run in traffic, burn … [Read more...]

Honest Baby Celebrates Imperfect Parenting Which is Everyone’s Style

Most of you know that I write for Honest Baby.  I discovered this website as a new parent and quickly grew to love the community and its creators.  The adorably funny t-shirts didn't hurt either.  I scooped up one for TD proclaiming, "I am not a performing monkey."  After posting quite a bit on their fledgling site the founder asked me to write for them.  Years later, I'm still there enjoying its content, reviews and the other writers like Jason from Outnumbered and Sex and the Sippy Cup that I think are way more talented and funny than me.  In honor of Honest Baby's (where it is all about imperfect parenting) four year anniversary they are holding their first time evah Twitter party  (details!) tonight (March 31) from 8-9 pm … [Read more...]

Blame it on Earth Day

Maybe it is all the PR pitches about Earth Day that has me in the green mode more than normal.  Maybe it's my pregnancy or the spring time with its feelings of renewal and spring cleaning.  Whatever it is I've become incensed lately when I see something going to waste.  Well, more so than my normal ranting, undapants in a wad, shaking fists fury. Case in point, today is trash day in my 'hood.  I look across the street and see my neighbor is throwing away a grill, two strollers, a bike, a little tikes car and a tiny pool table. Then there is some actual trash.  I say to H, "I hope that's for Freecycle."  To which he replied, "Nope.  It's trash."  One man's trash as they say... and I dashed across the street and went to look over the pile.  The bike and kid car are fine.  The strollers … [Read more...]

I'm happy to announce that Mummy's Product Reviews (MPR) has a brand spanking-new look.  All thanks to Izzy Designs.  She does amazing work! Ginormica Buys Some Shoes

Yesterday, I bought shoes.  Shoes, man!  I never buy shoes because eh, who has the time and size ten shoes that actually look nice and don't cost a boatload of money are often hard to come by.  Yes, I wear a size ten.   Apparently, the women of Boca do not because each shoe store and department store salesperson blinked, laughed or said, "you're joking, right?!" I prevailed though. I didn't slink back to troll the interweb for Ginormica foot apparel or hit up a Target like I often do.  I returned to my hotel room triumphant. I bought shoes.  Not practical mom-looking shoes either.  Real, big girl shoes with a cute buckle.  Then I had some chocolate cake.  It was a good day. … [Read more...]

Will Post-Partum Depression Strike Again?

One of the things I worry about with this third baby goes beyond the norm.  Sure, I worry about its health and if everything will be OK during the delivery but not like I did with TD when everything was so brand new and alien.  No, I worry about another round of Post-Partum Depression.  I had high hopes after The Comedian was born that I would escape unscathed and for a while it felt like I might.  While round two was not nearly as bad as the first go round was with TD it was still there and had to be dealt with and gone through.  H and I still had to figure out counseling sessions. I went on medication.  I was lucky to have family nearby who understood and was able to help out too. There were still dark moments, feelings of isolation, crying jags … [Read more...]
