I Just Felt Like Running

Sometimes when I run for long distances or a lot in a concentrated period of time all I can think of is Forrest Gump.  I hear him in my head saying, “I just felt like running.”

Beacause so often that is how it works with me.  If I give up on running for a bit or because I’m pregnant and just cannot run during those nine months (massive kudos to those who can) I pick it back up for the simple fact that, “I just felt like running.”

Running to me is a beautiful, freeing thing that works me raw sometimes and gives me joy almost every time I do it.  This isn’t propaganda to get you to go for a run.  I’m just talking about why I do it.  Why right now I miss it.  Here, stuck in bed, for the fourth? fifth day?  due to pneumonia one of the things that frustrates me the most is that it will be hard to go back to running.  Just as I am amping up my miles to train for my first half-marathon and another 10k (Go Zooma Annapolis, June 2!) I have to be in bed, coughing up a lung.

But yes, I love the high I get from running, how powerful my body and my mind feel and work during a run and for long periods after it, that even with pneumonia I decided to sign up today for the Zooma 10k in Annapolis in June!

I may not be in training form right now but thanks to how much I love to run I think I will be very soon.

If you are in the DMV area and want to sign up for the Zooma Annapolis, MD June 2, 2012 race then use this discount code for $10 off the Half Marathon, and $5 off the 10K (online registration)- no expiration date.

Oh no. Feel better Vicky! I totally get what you’re saying, though. I miss how good it felt to run. I’ve been trying to work up to it with a lot of walking for now. As I lose the weight I need to get to my goal, I know I will be ready again……hopefully someday to run a half(of full) marathon. I’m so excited for you. What an amazing accomplishment when you cross that finish line!

I love this perspective. I also love that when I meet someone who is a runner, there’s an instant connection, simply b/c we both “love to run.”

That’s so true, Ann! To the annoyance of others it can be a source of endless conversation. I have yet to find a type of exercise that I love just as much and is so easy to get started and just go do.
