The Challenge to Change

Disclosure:  TMC was sponsored by MinuteClinic to attend Blogher 2013.  Reviews are done without compensation and all opinions are my own.

I can’t think of a better time to get back into a challenging new workout or change-up one than after a trip. Whether it is for work or vacation your body is ready for something different when you return home.  It might be something you dread at first (ME! I DO!) but if you just push yourself to get started, to put on the clothes, go outside or into the gym to a class you have never tried before, you will discover a new energy that you did not have prior to that workout.  Trust me, it’s true.  New energy and exhilaration mixed with exhaustion but still Awesome with a capital ‘A’.

For me, that push, my challenge was to be crushed by Bob Harper: The Skinny Rules Workout Series 3 DVD Set (affiliate link) and I only did one workout in the Cardio series.  Looking at it online prior to playing it kind of instilled some fear in me.  Bob is no joke.  I don’t watch the Biggest Loser (I’m much more of a Chris Powell fan from Extreme Weight Loss) but I’ve done the 30-Day Shred with Jillian Michaels and wanted to explore something a bit more hardcore.  That means getting into the Skinny Rules series by Bob.

What I really like about this set is that you can choose from Cardio, Core or Strength training.  Each DVD has a warm-up section that is about 10 minutes long.  From there you have our pick of about 4 workouts per DVD that is almost 15 minutes long a piece.  For someone who has a tight schedule it is perfect.  I did one Cardio workout yesterday and almost puked.  Burpees and Air Squats nearly broke me but I did it and I have the soreness today to prove it.  And you know what?  I want more.  It was hard enough to challenge me and get me out of my comfort zone but short enough to keep me interested and  not feel overwhelmed.  Seriously, check it out and give it a try.  It will change you.

Last week I was happy (and sponsored) to land in Chicago for BlogHer 2013.  It was my sixth time going and yes, I felt a bit like a dinosaur.  If you are going to feel old anywhere, I think BlogHer is a great place to do it.  New ideas circulate, connections are made, cute shoes abound and a lot of networking takes place in a space that is all about seeing a new vision for you and your business or brand.  One of the things I am passionate (yeah, I said the ‘p’ word) is about helping others reach their goals, branch out and explore how fitness and food are all about feeding your body, mind and soul in a way that works for you.  Everyone is so different and what works for me, may not work for you.  I happen to be a freak about kale, interval training and eating foods that make me feel good, even if sometimes that is a giant slab of cake.

I was really excited to help MinuteClinic out and introduce their personalized Weight Loss Program because it not only finds a system that works for the individual but it works in conjunction with DASHforHealth.com (DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension).   What I love about the whole set-up is that you can walk in to a MinuteClinic and work with a practitioner to help you evaluate your physical health and then set up goals that work with you and your lifestyle.  One of the hardest parts of meeting your health and fitness goals is often an unrealistic plan that sets you up for failure.  This program gives you a plan, ongoing coaching, a membership to the DASH for Health online program, support between visits, meal plans, recipes, exercise tips and a whole lot more. Excited now?  They will even send your doctor a record of your visits to MinuteClinic to keep them up with your progress.

Honestly, it is pretty awesome.  I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t believe in it.

While at the MinuteClinic booth I talked with one of the Nurse Practitioners about the Personalized Weight Loss Program.  She gives a brief overview of the program and how you can use it.
