There’s a lot to love this week when it comes to the beauty section of TMC! I’m so excited about each and everyone of these products too! Let’s get started!
It’s no surprise that I’m a girly girl and as the mother of three girls I sometimes feel that I need to walk a fine line between how much I love beauty products, exploring and experimenting with them, reviewing them and not obsessing over them and making them seem too important. I had mixed feelings when I agreed to review Erika Katz’s book, Bonding Over Beauty.
The book’s front cover is a pretty eye-catching pink that my 7 year-old immediately picked up. She wanted to know all about the book’s contents. As I went through the book with her I found great ways to teach my daughter not just beauty tips and tricks but also building self-esteem and confidence. As I read it I found it held answers to questions that I had on certain how-to areas (I am in serious need of it in the hair area as I’m clueless on how to create many different styles and the girls are already asking for them.) but beyond that it is the perfect opportunity and lesson on how teaching your child the importance of self-care goes beyond what is on the outside it is about fostering a bond and deeper relationship that happens when we perform these rituals with each other be it with friends or between mothers and daughters. Like any activity it opens up the doors to more serious conversations between a parent and child and creates a lot of memories in the process. Bonding Over Beauty is perfect for mothers of tweens and teens.
Enjoy this DIY All Natural Aloe Shaving Cream recipe from the book. Mix all ingredients well and put into a foaming bottle or a clean soap pump dispenser. Lasts up to six months unrefrigerated.
To use: Shake well before each use. Rub a generous amount of creamy foam all over the area to be shaved.

I was already a fan of Adventuress skincare products because their sunscreen wipes are perfect for traveling and race days. The Wickedly Protective EnviroBalm is amazing for active women. I am loving the Vividly Restorative Skin Purifier too. It not only opens and cleans out my pores but doesn’t leave my skin dry like a lot of other pore cleaners. Made from naturally occurring fruit and plant extracts like quince seed it also helps to firm my skin. It’s another good find.
Want more goodness? I knew it!!
Kiss My Face is a staple in our house. From shave creams to soaps and lotions and makeup we use it a lot. I really love the Peace Soap, which I had never tried before. It comes in four fabulous scents- Lavender Mandarin, Pomegranate Acai, Grassy Mint and Lemongrass Clary Sage (my favorite). Each one is light, 100% natural Castile soap and has no parabens, SLS or phthalates. It is so gentle but cleans well and I feel good about using it on my body and my kids too. Plus, 10% of the profits go to Seeds of Peace an organization that helps unite teens from areas of conflict to establish a peaceful coexistence.
