I can be somewhat rigid when it comes to schedules and the way I like to go about my days. I plan the week, I plan our meals, I plan blog posts (except for the day I’m actually scheduled to co-host a blog link-up! that’s when I decide to head out of town for a long weekend and shut down. WHAT?!), I plan when I do my back to school, holiday shopping right down to the time and day. OK, maybe I am a lot rigid. I section out every day with plans. Eesh.
When I decided to take a bit of a long weekend with just the my girls and ‘say yes’ during that time, I had no idea if it would make life and driving a whole lot more fun or just a trip on the crazy train. We’ve got one day left on this trip and this is what I’ve learned.
Say yes to breaking for lunch only 30 minutes into the trip versus half-way. Who cares. We ate. No one really cared about time on the road when they were already having fun.
Say yes to stopping for ice cream at a cute family run = homemade ice cream place only minutes before arriving at our destination. Just say no to allowing all three kids their own giant cone in the hot sun. Even they had their own freak-out “MY HANDS ARE STUCK TOGETHER LIKE GLUE!! Mommy! It’s disgusting! Make it stop!” moments.
Say yes to the pool every time it is asked. Say yes to the beach too. All in one day and multiple times. Just keep walking back and forth to each and no one cares.
Say yes to a movie with popcorn instead of dinner.
Say yes to birthday cake even if we just had ice cream earlier that day and bedtime is right around the corner.
Say yes to dolls eating lunch with us in restaurants and stopping for snacks and drinks each time they are asked for during the pre-planned back to school shopping trip. Even if you already planned snacks. Yes, I do and did.
We have one day left on this trip and I think I will continue to say yes and maybe even take a detour to stir up some fun on the way home versus just plowing down the highway trying to make good time. I’m like the Dad from the ‘Wonder Years’, I swear.
One thing I have learned is this-
Saying yes means face first into bed total exhaustion at the end of the day.

Stopping by from FundayMonday! LOVE your blog- ohmygoodness! You wrote about something that’s been tugging at my heart a lot, lately. I used to be extremely rigid, but lost a little of that after I had my first child. Now that I have two, I’m so a “fly by the seat of my pants” kind of person. Though it drives me crazy to be so unscheduled, sometimes, I find some freedom in just “being cool” with whatever happens. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I get thrown for a loop that makes me want to get on anti-anxiety meds. Ha! C’est la vie!

Thank you Kimberly!!! So glad you stopped by. And yes, now that I have three kids I’m a bit less rigid in some ways but the planning keeps us all sane most days. It’s a balance or happy medium to strive for I suppose. Keep reading! 🙂
