The House Filled with Love & Rainbows by #TheAG
I feel like the song lyrics, “with a little love we can work it out.” have been a chant in my head for the last six months. Mainly when it comes to our house. We knew the road to bringing our new home back to her former glory was going to be a long one. Five months of highs and lows of buying and fixing up a short sale (hello, mold remediation and demo!) were exciting and at times highly frustrating. It all worked out in the end and we moved in after almost two straight 24/7 months of making repairs.
We unpacked and settled in. We hit the six week mark last Thursday, woke up and found the basement to be in ankle-deep water. And the snow? It came down.
As we frantically dried documents all around our house, getting them crisp and crinkly by the fire, the plumber made repairs such as water damage restoration, drain cleaning, etc. and H began removing all the water and tossing the pad from brand new carpet. Soggy boxes, wet everything. It was heart-breaking.
Then the dishwasher leaked all over the kitchen floor. A banister spindle snapped off and the master bath shower decided not to drain. Did I mention the microwave caught fire? It did. During TD’s birthday party we had to break two doorknobs off because they had actual key locks and we were never given the key.
Guys? I need a little love or maybe just a dose of spring. I’m feeling like this is the winter of our discontent. I know it is temporary. It could have been worse. The clean-up is largely over. The problem solved, but I’m toast. I feel as dried up as all the paperwork we had to dry out.
When I looked through last week’s link up, one outfit stood out. Johanna from 101 Things I Luv and her Creature Comfort post. Is it possible for one look to just turn your outlook around? I think so! I identified with her words and the look she created just soothed me. A bit of winter but with spring and all its renewal on the horizon. Yes, please!
