We all need a little break now and then. A moment or two to tune everything out and concentrate on something that has nothing to do with us, our lives, our work or whether or now we really do need another white tank top or set of distressed denim jeans. Lately, I’ve been feeling the urge to create but I’m so not crafty. I look at my girls coloring at the kitchen table and want to join in. Except coloring Strawberry Shortcake and My Little Pony pics only takes me so far and I tire of using crayons. I wanted more detail and design. That’s when I picked up my own set of markers and Godey’s Fashions coloring book just for me. I sat at my desk a full hour this weekend just coloring three dresses from way back when. It was calming, creative and fun. I cannot wait to do more.
Adult coloring is such a thing right now. It allows us to let go and let our mind wander. I drew inspiration from the use of colors that make Victorian fashion historically accurate as well as the ability to quit thinking about the million and one things I should have been doing, like our housewarming party next weekend. It’s fun to join in with my kids when they color too.
I have the pleasure of co-hosting with Angela from Reason to Dress today! After spending time coloring Victorian clothing this weekend I had a whole new appreciation for the simplicity that have when dressing today. Forget multiple layers and bathing suits with stockings and shoes(!) Let’s take inspiration from each other and see what’s going on in parts of the world that our different from our own. I love how Angela shows Italian families out and about looking stylish while running errands on weekends or hanging at the playground. Even the kids get dressed up! I come away from her blog with a new outlook on daily dressing. Check her out!
