A Little Motivation

When it comes to fitness I have been off my game this summer. Sure, I’ve been working out on a regular basis but I haven’t pushed myself in the last month. I stopped running regularly when we started to move and afterwards it was the dead of winter, a new neighborhood with no consistent sidewalks and a bunch of excuses to fuel the ‘no more running’ fire.

Except, once a runner, always a runner. I think that same mind over body thing that can sometimes derail a good run will also bring you right back around. The way I feel after a run lasts more than a few hours and I love how it changes my perspective and gets me out and about and into the elements. It clears my head and keeps me active while giving me a bit of alone time too. And I’m all about anything that offers up less stress, better sleep and knees while giving me a sharper mind. I was just sick of looking at the same streets, I think.

My runs along the York River while on vacation had me seeing sights like this daily.

It compelled me to run a little longer for another day each time. I wanted to stretch on a pier and take in the scent of the sea.  I wanted to run while watching fish jump, herons fly and feel salty air cooling me.  Now that I’m home, I don’t want to give up that energized, streamlined feeling.  And I signed up for another race so I just have to keep training, now don’t I?

I need to sign up for a run soon. We ran in CT this past weekend and it was awesome. I love running in new places while vacationing – it really does a body good! Glad you are back in it!

I have fallen off the running bandwagon this summer! With our dog as my running buddy, it’s so hard to take him out when it’s so hot and humid and treadmills just don’t do it! Come fall I’ll be ready to hit some different trails with him though because I really miss it and our walks just aren’t the same!
