How to Pack for a Weekend Getaway

Last weekend H and I took a little trip for our 15th wedding anniversary. We headed to Monticello for a night. I knew that as soon as I dropped my bags at the front door I was off to see Heart, Joan Jett and Cheap Trick for a night out with some of my girls. It all came down to ‘How to Pack for a Weekend Getaway’.

How to Pack for a weekend Getaway

Traveling in the car, walking the grounds of Jefferson’s Virginia home and then hitting the streets of Charlottesville, I wanted to be comfortable, but also look nice because we were having our anniversary dinner out at C & O Restaurant.
Pack It Up, Pack It In
Packing light was key for me.  To make it simple and stress free I chose a black and white color palette that I could easily swap items in and out.
1. Choose a color palette
I changed up my earrings and added a necklace or a pink clutch for a pop of color at night and into the next day.
2. Use accessories to add color or versatility. Note: A crossbody style bag is easy to carry and store stuff.  Remove the straps for a cute clutch!
I wanted to limit myself to two pairs of shoes that could both dress up or dress down a look depending on my mood or activity.  Slip on sneakers and fringe sandals made this possible.
3. Pack as few pairs of shoes as possible.  Here’s where the color palette will help once again.
Hitting up the gardens of Montecello.
Fifteen years and counting.
Traveling home the next day I opted for the cotton stretch of my Old Navy pencil skirt from a few years back and this striped Forever 21 v-neck I always love.  When I got home I swapped out the skirt for my denim shorts so I could sit comfortably on the lawn at Jiffy Lube Live to hear Heart, Cheap Trick and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts play while sipping drinks with my friends.  I skipped the crossbody bag in exchange for a black wristlet while at the show.  It was from a free gift in a make-up set years ago and I use it to store small items when traveling or when I want to be really hands-free and minimal.

You pack well!! I have tried with my last few trips to stick with simple basics and bring along scarves and shoes to mix things up. Looks like you had a great weekend.
