Fire Prevention Week is just around the corner, October 9-15, 2016 to be exact. That means the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is debuting the highly entertaining and informative Sparky’s Firehouse app. Get the word out to teachers gearing up to teach your kiddos at all grade levels the importance of fire prevention and safety and cue adorable plastic hats atop their heads as they climb off the bus.
In our house we have a child at every level from kindergarten to the end of elementary school. I try to teach them about fire protection and so do their teachers, but we all need a little help sometimes too. That’s why we frequently break out the Sparky’s Firehouse app from the NFPA. Even though this is for kids, parents can learn a lot too! So take a look and see if there is anything you may not know about so you can make changes in your home, for example some people don’t know that it is necessary to get a sprinkler inspections for their existing sprinkler system since they can break down over the years and not work when you need them to.
Both kindergartener and second grader sing along with Steve and Sparky after school.
You can download the brand new Sparky’s Firehouse app. The app is available in the following places: iTunes, Amazon for Android.
Games are a good interactive way for kids to retain information and have fun.
What We Loved About Sparky’s firehouse By Age Breakdown
Kindergarten: Singing along with Steve!
Second Grade: Firefighting’s Weird History and Fascinating Future. Firefighters used music to warn about fires and their beards to breathe? Well, yes!
One of our favorite groups, Recess Monkey, also makes an appearance in the smaller kids section which was super fun and engaging for the girls. So get ready to hear your kids singing “What’s that Sound” a lot.
Fifth Grade: The Home Fire Escape Plan in the Digital Backpack that you can download. My oldest has been trying to create one and get us involved. This was easy and the checklist made it possible for us to go room by room and create a floor plan and meeting spot for our own home. We all felt a bit better after that.
Let your child’s teacher know that they can find fun activities, worksheets and lesson plans with all the resources they need from SparkySchoolhouse.org.
