Now is the perfect time to prepare your car for fall with the auto repair it needs.  The season is just beginning, the weather is still warm and that winter’s chill has not crept in enough to make it a hassle to head outdoors.  Think of this as getting ahead of the game.  Prepare now and you won’t have to do much to get your car ready for winter.

10 Steps to Prepare Your Car for Fall

  1. Check Your Tire Pressure.  When the temperature dips just 10 degrees your tire pressure is often changed by 1-2 pounds.  I know my car already did this over the weekend. Check the pressure and fill your tires accordingly.
  2. Check Your HVAC System.  Frost will begin to cover your windshield on cold mornings, the chill will seep into your car interior.  To ensure proper heating, defrosting and cooling (we can still have hot summer-like days) have your car’s HVAC system checked.  You can turn it on and off yourself at home to get the process started.
  3. Check Your Wiper Blades.  Are they squeaking or stuttering or missing spots on the windshield? Now is the time to replace them before fall rain and frost occur.
  4. Check Your Brakes.  Fall is the time when bad weather can start up again.  Don’t be caught with bad brakes.  Take them in for a test (many places will do it for free) and get them repaired before icy roads and heavy rains begin.
  5. Check Your Fluids.  Refill all the fluids in your car but especially the windshield washer fluid.  Water can freeze on a windshield in cold weather. Fill the reservoir with anti-freezing fluid.
  6. Check Your Battery.  This is easy to do.  Simply take your car into the closest auto repair store and ask them to test your battery.  No one wants to be stranded but especially not in the colder, darker months.
  7. Check Your Lights.  Visibility is always important but fall days are shorter and the nights are darker.  Make sure your lights are all working properly and shining brightly.
  8. Get a Diagnostic Scan.  It’s important to make sure your car is in good running condition before rough winter weather.  A diagnostic scan will give you any trouble codes on your car so you can fix problems before they stop you in your tracks. You can also find the gear you need to protect your car this fall and winter at Sello.
  9. Wash & Detail Your Car.  Why? It makes it easy to spot any potential problems. Scratches in the exterior can let corrosion begin when the roads become salted in the winter. Get those scratches fixed in the fall and have an xpel paint protection film installed. You may also consider applying an Auto Ceramic Coating to add an extra layer of protection against scratches and harsh weather. And if you want affordable car wash services, then you may consider getting a membership at an unlimited car wash club.
  10. Check Your Tires.  Got good tread on those tires?  You want to have good tires before winters snow and ice set in.
