She’s Crafty. Sort of.

Actually no. Ask anyone and I will deny being crafty any time, any day of the week.  There was that brief period in the late 90s where I scrapbooked but to that all I can say is, "I got caught up in the frenzy, man!"  I am thrifty.  I like being economical, hard times or not.  Finding a bargain or way to save money kind of gets me all hot and bothered.  It only seems natural now that I combined the two practices and came up with this idea for The Comedian's last birthday.Yup, I made cupcake toppers and it was free courtesy of Mooo.comFace masks for the "Cheeky Monkey" theme at Mooo.com.  Only costs me a $1 for the sticks. The bags were bought at Micheal's in a pack for less than $5.  Inside I printed out a coloring page and personalized door … [Read more...]

Peas in a Pod

The Fifth Element & Izzy on Halloween.   Holding hands. Playing and growing together. Two peas in a pod. November is National Adoption Month.  We have many kids on our block but last year we had a little Christmas miracle.  Izzy came to our 'hood right making us believe that Santa can deliver early and prayers know no bounds.  Our whole neighborhood has watched her grow this past year and it is in part to the wonderful thing that is adoption. Placing a baby for adoption can be a difficult decision, but it is an option that many women and couples choose for various reasons. It involves a legal process where the biological parent(s) voluntarily give up their parental rights, placing baby for adoption, and transfer them to an adoptive family. There are different types … [Read more...]

Where’s Mummy?

I've returned from visiting my Dad this weekend as he finally got discharged from the hospital.  We don't know what is wrong technically, but we do know that it isn't life threatening.  Yeah!  Thank you to everyone who sent good wishes, prayers, hugs, tweets, and FB messages to me over the last few days. They were a great comfort to all of us.  In other news- I'm giving away a set of Eco bottles from BornFree.  Sunless tanners are coming up streak free! Really! The DC Moms is asking the important questions like, "Would You Wear Loungewear?"The Find.com is where to go when looking for a great shade of red lipstick, Halloween costumes or the anything in between, even sippy cups and bamboo placemats!  It's also where I discuss "Sleek and Spooky Makeup for … [Read more...]

Where’s Mummy?

I'm jaunting off to Colorado Springs for work this week. In town for one night only! I won't get to see any sights like Pikes Peak or any sights actually but that's fine. The Fifth Element turns one this week and who needs Pikes Peak when there is an octopus cake to be made? While I'm gone, read about the new section, This Week in Cars, launched on MPR last Friday. Enter to win a skin care set from Cures. or Try your luck at winning the Back to School package from Post-It's I'll be back soon! … [Read more...]

Pumpin’ Ain’t Easy. Or is it?

I am beyond glad that my days of breastfeeding are over. While it got easier with each kid and can be downright convenient I started to want my body back after a few months. I was also sick of wrestling with nursing bra straps and only wearing clothes that made nursing easier. Talk about a fashion buzz kill. Don't even get me started on breast pads. Bah. This made me laugh though and I had to share. … [Read more...]

Obligatory Post Blogher Post

There was a little bit of this and a little bit of that Yes, I am licking the blogher sign made out of Ivory soap. Sometimes, I like to lick things. That's not weird or anything is it? and the weekend wouldn't be complete without a giant dueling unicorn cake courtesy of Sparkleron, now would it? Oh, right and I attended some really wonderful panels by people like Susan, Britt and Sarah Maizes (watch her book trailer, it's hilarious). This year I felt like I took away a bit of an education for my future, something I lacked last year. I felt lonely at times though as it seemed half my blogging world-turned IRL world friends were missing. Still, I got to dance, room with Sarah yet again (hair, bags of hair to sell on ebay, Sarah. BWAHAHA...) skip sleep, see The Help early and … [Read more...]

Scaredy Cat

You know that old FDR quote, "We have nothing to fear, but fear itself?" Yeah, I think ol'Franklin took that from his wife, Eleanor. I'm reading My Year with Eleanor: A Memoir currently. While it is Noelle Hancock's memoir and journey with fear Eleanor's plight with fear is much highlighted too. I sat up at 3 a.m., unable to sleep, reading this book last night and thinking about how fear really is such a demotivator. Fear stops me from doing even the most minute things. Like take all three kids to the library for story time. Yes, really. When Hancock pushes herself to do things, small and large, to beat her battle with fear, it resonates with something I have been attempting all summer long. My fear of working less. To me, my job is who I am, it is how I define myself. If I am not hacking … [Read more...]

Racing for Pinks

In case anyone was wondering exactly what I was doing in Dearborn, Michigan last week...Yes, I did drag race, get whipped around in the Taurus SHO (Super High Output) and drove the Ford Explorer over all different types of terrain. It was, wait for it... awesome!  I would do it all again and again.  Catch up with me next week when I talk in more detail about what exactly Ford is doing that puts them above and beyond other car companies today.*totally unsponsored post. … [Read more...]

Totally Untamed Tuesday

I can be a bit of a control freak.  I like things to be done certain ways and when they aren't well, I tend to get a bit, uh, testy.  You are sitting there completely shocked right now, I know. When The Comedian started eating cereal straight from the bag yesterday morning I looked at her and TD and declared it, "Totally Untamed Tuesday!"  I was going to just let things go.  For a day.  My friend, Kristen would say I was letting go of my "New England hang-ups sensibilities".  So I let the kids eat cereal out of the bag.  I let them put cereal in sippy cups with milk and try to eat it that way.  We made an impromptu trip to "Crazy Town" as TD calls it and when the book store we were visiting wasn't open yet (an hour late!) I just 'Meh'd' it and we took … [Read more...]
