Where’s Mummy?

SPRING! It's finally sprung! I feel like after a few false starts that spring might finally be here! Thank God because I'm about ready to torch half the clothes in my closet from boredom. I'm ready to break out something lighter and fresh. … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday!

Let's call this edition 'Museum Day' wiww. I was running around town doing the necessary errands, lunching alone and then finding some quiet time to hit up an exhibit on domestic life in the Gilded Age.  I wanted comfort with a bit of style because it was cold, there was a lot of walking and yet, I had no kids with me.  … [Read more...]

Upping My Game & Finding New Challenges

Spring break last week provided me with more opportunities to work out, read books about this first British female to summit K2, which helped me to be more productive than I could of ever imagined. I was halfway through the week and realized, "I've worked out every day! YES!" And I rocked that routine mixing it up with ME, running and weights everyday but Sunday when we traveled. I typically don't go to the gym at night with the kids but last week I said, "Screw it!" It's the witching hour in our house at that point and if I just plan enough, meaning dinner made ahead of time, I can get to my favorite class (Metabolic Effect) and be done and the kids have a blast at the gym's Kidz Klub (don't get me started on that spelling) every time we go they think it is like going to a birthday … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday

This edition should be titled, "The Meeting that Never Was". Or I just couldn't find a spot. I had a meeting in the city. A lunch/speaker thing to go to and leaving myself about 20 minutes for parking was clearly not enough. I drove and circled and circled and drove and guess what? No parking. Then I got stuck behind a delivery truck who was having similar issues. Forty minutes later I gave it up and decided to move on, get lunch and get some work done. At least I got to rock some cigarette pants though.  Take a look! … [Read more...]

Getting Bold for Spring

Yesterday, was one of those days that just called for a happy dance. Things were lining up and despite some small setbacks I didn't get flustered or spun up. Maybe that gratitude journal is working, right Janine?  How do I celebrate a series of good events, small victories and overall happiness?  Ok, this time it was not with absinthe or champagne or erm, both.  … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday

I felt inspired by a few posts from other wiww participants a few weeks back (So wish I could remember the ladies and credit them! Sorry!) and decided to break out a sweater I never wear.  Long story short, red is one of my favorite colors.  I used to wear it all the time. Now, I never do.  This time I broke out the red sweater from long ago, threw on a red-striped shirt and added some old school pearls.  … [Read more...]

Making Own Plates Saves Picky Eaters

As I write this I am pondering how best to give my kids a healthy but fun dinner. Tonight, I have a bit more time. I'm mixing onions, peppers and tomatoes with black beans to create a simple dinner of black bean nachos. The girls can add their own toppings once everything is heated and it is a light meal that makes dinner easier and more fun. They pile on the black olives, dollop on some sour cream and add a healthy bit of montery jack and cheddar cheese. Add some spice with salsa or hot sauce and their plates are full in no time. … [Read more...]

Calling a Family Meeting

I didn't grow up in a house that held family meetings.  Being an only child it was basically "This is what your father and I have decided and the way it is going to be."  Like it or lump it and sure, go ahead and smoke out your bedroom window.  You'll get tired of that bad habit some day.  Yet it was clear that in our home, a family of five, we need to do things a bit differently.  We are working with a lot of personalities, a lot of schedules and a short supply of patience more often than not.  Between school, work, activities and just life we were all feeling disconnected and discontent.  When my Mom gave me a Parents magazine a few weeks ago with an article about holding family meetings I sort of wanted to groan out loud and throw it in the recycling bin.  As it happens insomnia … [Read more...]

Being Green

Greens for St. Patrick's Day by veamason featuring john lewis There's still time to get your green on for St. Patrick's Day on Sunday.  Get inspired.  Throw on a mint colored scarf or pair of jeans.  Break out your emerald stud earrings and play up the eyes with hints of gold and green.  Or just piss someone off and wear orange. I do.    Happy St. Patrick's Day! … [Read more...]
