Are You Registered to Vote?

October 12 is the last day to register to vote in my state, Virginia. Do you know the last day to register in your own state?  Are you registered, do you know what you need when you go to the polls on November 6, this year?  You better find out fast.  If you aren't registered yet, take some time to think about why you haven't done it and read this post from the past. For Goodness Sake Think of Alice Paul! Less than 100 years ago women fought for the right to vote. They fought long and hard battles staging protests and strikes in front of the White House. These women were the first people to protest in front of the White House ever. For women like Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, often described as militants, the decision to fight for the women’s right to vote was especially strong. These … [Read more...]

A Stormy Brew

My girlfriend texted me about colors that are in for fall the other day, "Purple is in this fall, right?" I texted back, "Absolutely!" She painted her fingers and toes a stunning, slightly metallic purple. It reminded me that I had two colors sitting on my own bathroom counter, waiting to be mixed together. Butter London's 'Gobsmacked' (Fall/Winter 2012) Essie 'French Affair' (Spring/Summer 2011) I started out with a very light mixture of Gobsmacked and heavy on the French Affair. It was streaky and too light for the season. The end result was reminded me of a hurricane sky purple with that dark blue you often see during a storm on the water.  It seemed appropriate for the end of September.  Please, ignore the rough edges.  This is pre-cutical clean up. … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday

This week the temps are all over the place! Sixties one day and high 80's the next so bringing out the fall clothes or wearing any new things has been hard.  I have packed away the sandals though. I'm just not going back.  It is time to bring on the boots!  I'm on a search for a fantastic orange sweater, which never fails to cheer me. Quick poll- If you buy a pair of colored pants or jeans which do you choose?   Bright Blue or Red?  I can't decide. Now on to What I Wore Wednesday … [Read more...]

Beware the Third Baby

The other day I was showering after my workout and The Fifth Element was in the bathroom with me.  She loves to be in the vanity part of the room while I'm in the shower.  It's where she can do the most damage to the carpet, closet and let loose the faucets on the tub (YEAH! Let's soak the clean laundry Mommy just chucked in there and didn't have time to hang!) and I can't catch her as quickly.  She goes back and forth between the shower and the sinks, babbling her two year-old slang and hurling elastics, brushes, self-tanners and make-up brushes around the room with wild abandon.  In the shower said 'hello' to her as she walked into my part of the bathroom.  I thought it was cute when she climbed on the scale too.  The scale she then moved under the light switch which boosted her up to … [Read more...]

Throwing Plants Instead of Flames

I admitted on Twitter this week to being in a grief inspired funk. Inspired, my ass. Oh yes, internets welcome to the world of Mummy sobbing while singing crappy Journey songs in my car with all the windows down, sobbing while running and generally living inside my head way too much.  The questions that remain now that I'm done with the "Why" series are, "When will it stop?  When will the anger depart?" I don't even question the ones about missing the person.  That won't happen for a while, if ever.  No, I don't think ever. … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday

Owls are big this year in fashion and home decor. I found this fun one mixed in with a bunch of my grandmother's costume jewelery and decided it was just perfect for a casual day with the kids and working at home. … [Read more...]

The Acorn, The Tree and All That

They say that the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree.  For weeks H and I have looked upon our middle child and wondered aloud to each other, "Who does she look like?"  We just couldn't tell.  A trip to my uncles, a few photo albums later and finding this photo revealed it all- … [Read more...]

Fall Nails

Thanks to Coterie I received three new butter LONDON nail lacquers and a matte topcoat this week. For free!  Yes, free. My new fave color is Wallis.  It just might be my go to color for fall. … [Read more...]

I am a Fake Parent

As parents we learn to lie to ourselves. A lot.  First when we are expecting it is about how we won't raise our kids to be "like that kid!" or that other people just aren't doing it right. Your kid will totally sleep through the night, not teethe and always happily eat every wonderful morsel you plop onto its plate.  We lie after they are born about how hard it is, how sleep deprived we are and that we are so totally not afraid our kid might be dumber than we project to others. … [Read more...]
