Things You Might Not Know

I've been a delinquent blogger as of late. My mother is in town to help out a bit and also to 'Surprise!' me with a shower courtesy of my MIL and SIL too. I confess, I already knew about it. It was at my house after all. Can I just say, a fantastic job was done all around at this fete this past Saturday? From the tiniest details of caramel apple favors, the fall colors, little pumpkins, a fantastic two-tiered beyond delish cake and all the food and my friends- it was just everything I could have hoped for. It's just been a bit busy and my house is over run with baby stuff again. Let the organizing and further nesting begin! That being said, it's the latest edition (or first, baby brain prohibits me from actually remembering) of "Things You Might Not Know About Me" -1. One of my … [Read more...]

Things that Make Me Cranky

I had that wrung out look about me yesterday. I just couldn't seem to get or hold my shit together for the life of me. Sure, I made it out the door and did the good mom thing by taking TD to a new and exciting playground but once we were there I got a case of the crankies. Or just maintained them it can be hard to tell with my roller coaster hormones these days.Things that Make Me Cranky-1. Heavy playground talk. Yes, I love politics and discussing them. Sometimes my head explodes listening to various opinions too. I draw the line though at discussing weighty world issues while pushing my kid on the swings. I don't want to think about the Taliban, child-rape cases, incest, warring countries, the suck-ass economic predicament our country is in or abortion. That's way too heavy dude and I'm … [Read more...]

Thirteen Years Ago I Needed ‘Click To Empower’

This morning I put out four bags of clothes onto my front step for donation pick up. It was then that I realized that I didn't have any purses in the bags. Nothing in that capacity to even donate either. I felt a bit guilty too. As if I am not doing my part to help with a cause I hold near my heart despite not always wanting to and wish I didn't have to.What the heck am I talking about? It's October people. It's not just awareness month for the pink ribbons but also for Domestic Violence. From now until October 3 many Allstate insurance agencies will be working with Dress for Success to collect purses and professional bags to help women get back on their feet and back to the work force prepared and in style. So be generous! Find that Allstate agency near you and give yourself an excuse to … [Read more...]

The Bank of Frustration

Dear Giant Bank that Apparently only Recognizes My Husband as a Client:Thank you so much for alerting me to the $800 charges to my debit account two weeks ago. You were so prompt and so fast in your phone call on a late Friday night. It almost made me love you. Almost. Then I called you back and despite the late hour and 24-hour service I was put on hold for quite some time and got jokey the jokster as my service rep. "That totally sucks, sorry about that..." is not the response I want to hear when I let you know that indeed I did not spend nearly $700 at Kroger in Georgia while I was in fact racking up charges here in Virginia. Nor did I spend $100 at Home Depot in Decauter. Nope, not me. I could have gone along with your ha-ha I sound like a total stoner attitude and said that, … [Read more...]

There’s Nothing Like the Smell of Chemicals in the Morning

Bug Spray. Exterminator juices (well, that sounds kind of ick, now doesn't it?) or what have you. There is nothing I like more than sitting in an enclosed space and seeing the exterminator walk through the door with his little spraying canister device. And then start spraying the office I'm waiting in. Including all around the couch that I'm sitting on and into every nook and cranny. While I appreciate my mechanics effort to be bug free what with those enticing candy machines for lost children, vending machines and the free hot muddy substance they call coffee all over the place, I do not like hanging out with or without TD and literally being sprayed as if I'm the cockroach in the corner. It might smell like victory to the exterminator but to me it just smells a bit unsafe.Read here for … [Read more...]

Candy Corn = Massive Meltdown

I know what you are thinking. TD wanted candy corn. TD did not get candy corn. TD has massive meltdown. End of story.Nope. The meltdown was all mine and it happened happily in my home and not out in public. That would have been really embarrassing for H.Call it hormones, a house over run with home projects, baby stuff and just our own stuff and I lost it. There I was trying to write, supposed to be writing/working and I just couldn't. The infant car seat was apart on the floor in front of me with the Jolly Jump-Up, excersaucer and taken apart baby swing. If I looked to my left power tools and paint covered almost every surface. Toddler toys crawled out from every corner of my home and laundry snarled and snapped at my feet. The stairs to my house were a landmine of items to be put … [Read more...]

Coffee Grinder- You Are My Secret Shame

It's not Starbucks. It's not the actual coffee maker. It's not the even the lovely and glossy beans themselves per say. It is my coffee grinder. Oh sweet, grinder, that I cannot live without. Your black sleek design and single push button mechanism makes my day after what happened during the kitchen remodeling. Our "new" cabinets were mounted up on the wall, but the contractors that had originally built the house placed a bad piece of dry wall causing everything to fall down and in the process breaking a few of my kitchen appliances, we replaced everything but we couldn't find the same coffee machine so we bought a coffee maker and grinder. Every day. When I paid the bargain price of $14.99 for you six years ago (and still going strong!) you were considered an unnecessary item and … [Read more...]

Lucy Burns, Alice Paul and Russell Brand

MoodyMommy posted this the other day and as always I got all fired up. There I was snapping photos of the back of TD's head for a snarky post, because quite frankly her hair is mirroring Russell Brand's these days, and reading my email when I read her post.I myself have written about women's voting history before and how important it is to not give up, lay down and say we are too busy to vote. Yes, we have busy lives, but this right was not easily won for us women. Almost a century ago our sisters fought long and hard and did not back down when beaten and persecuted just to earn the right to have their say on election day. While I never normally do this, I'm re-posting this today. It just needs to be reiterated again this election season. Get fired up ladies! Choose your candidate! … [Read more...]

You Did Not Have Me At Hello

To say it was love at first sight would be a massive understatement. The words ESPN and phrase, "Are you going to be a bitch all night?" were some of the first he said to me. He was a frat boy/soon-to-be Marine who arrived at my door with Bud Light beer cans shoved in his khaki pants pockets. And those pants? They didn't match his beige vest. I was not impressed. Then, over phone calls, not so average first dates of midnight showings of 'The Big Lebowski' (Lord knows I love a good weasel in a bathtub scene), actual theatre screenings of my favorite film 'Gone with the Wind' accompanied by my most adored meal out - diner grilled cheese with a milkshake (Yes, really.), he began to impress me. He moved my furniture for me. Drove me to and from the airport. He cooked me dinner more … [Read more...]
