Running to Where I Need to Be

Twice last week I stepped out of my comfort zone when it came to running.  Since most of my days are highly structured due to the schedules of the four other people living in my house, my runs and other workouts have to happen at specific times and days.  Ballet class at 10 in the morning?  No gym running.  School is only half a morning?  Going to miss ME.  That's this week and it rankles me. Last week I made it the exception and had two of the better runs I've had in a very long time. Not only did I need to complete those miles for training, I needed them mentally to get my head back in the training game. By stepping out of my comfy, albeit rigid area of schedules for training with this half-marathon, if I don't do it this way the training simply will not happen.  Race day will come … [Read more...]

Back to Running

I have a confession to make. I haven't run a single mile since June.  Early June. After Zooma, when I injured my knee, I needed to take a few steps back and really let it heal.  I worked on strength in my legs, core and whole body versus adding miles.  I worked on flexibility and stretching too. … [Read more...]

Finding My Way, Again.

I admit that lately I have felt uninspired.  I have ignored my blog, been busy with life, work and incubating the Fifth Element the last few months.  It hasn't left a lot of room for contemplation, new ideas or much of anything but the bare necessities.  I have felt removed from the blogosphere too.  I have tried to attend events only to have to cancel from exhaustion.  Last Sunday changed all that. I managed to get myself dressed and have the energy to attend the Silicon Valley Moms Group/ DC Metro Moms event that two of my friends put together.  After a brunch that I missed (The Comedian got sick, that's life) there was a ssymposium of companies and professional bloggers that allowed me to not just eat some damn fine cheese but to sit in a room full of women … [Read more...]

Murphy’s Law

It's Murphy's Law that I go away for a weekend and get some much needed rest and re-connection with H only to come home sick with two sick kids.  It's Murphy's Law that I have a meeting today that would actually put money in my pocket and now I have to cancel because the only time the pediatrician could see a severely wheezing Comedian was during that said meeting. It's Murphy's Law that has me looking at mountains of work that needs to be done, the motivation to finally do that work and the energy, despite being sick, and the sitter decides to not even show up today or return my calls.  You know what though?  I don't care. I'll get over being mad at the sitter and losing some money.  I'll get the work done somehow too.  It's more important that I take care of … [Read more...]

We Vant to be Alone

Being woken up at 5:30 in the morning by a four year-old whining that she is hungry is maddening.  When that said four year-old is accompanied by a waving long-beamed flashlight that glows across your room making it feel like your being invaded by aliens?  Well, that is just a recipe for evil.  Throw in the four year-old then knocking on her sister's door while calling her name and you have two parents who can only dream of the fact that they are going away A-L-O-N-E this weekend while they grumble into their pillows and bemoan their early morning existence. That's right.  Bright and early Friday morning we are dropping TD and The Comedian off at their grandparents house for a weekend of spoiled, late bedtimes, chicken nugget, juice box … [Read more...]

Mummy Needs A Do Over

Oh my. Let's just put it all out there for a minute, shall we? Since Blogher I have been the most ridiculous glutton. I can't pass up a cookie, cupcake, candy, plate of fries or Eggs Benedict even if it doesn't have my name on it. I'll feel guilty for eating badly a few days in a row. My body screams for veggies and I ply it with carbs and then I resolve to be better. Suddenly I'm chowing on chicken strips and more french fries. Egads! It's like the last supper at every. freakin'. meal.No more.I simply have to cut back. I did not Shred and train for that 5k to just end up back where I was before and in less than two months time. That's quite simply insane, disheartening, and sad. I have to be better so that my poor liver, thighs and butt can get back into shape.I am not saying I'm going to … [Read more...]

Pack it Up! We’re Going to Chocolate World!

"Are we going to Pretzel land today?" TD asks continuously. To her Pennsylvania is the land of the giant pretzel thanks to her US Maps placemat. However, after this weekend I am quite sure PA will be known as Chocolate World from here on out.I'm doing laundry like a whirling dervish today. I just finished unpacking myself from my trip and off we go again. I'm looking forward to this opportunity for some downtime with the family. Lately our schedules have been so missed matched that we are almost never home at the same time. The kids are coming and going and so are we. I'm not concerned about the car ride to Hershey. We've got car trips down. Rather I'm deeply, deeply concerned about us all sharing a hotel room. We've got light sleepers, we've got nappers and we all have different … [Read more...]

Randomness #235- I look like Harry Potter

-Those crazy folks at Poo-pourri are at it again- "Poo~Pourri is a spray deodorizer designed to be sprayed directly onto the toilet bowl water before you go. The secret blend essential oils create a film on the surface of the toilet water that acts as a barrier to trap odors inside." Secret blend? Makes me think of the Colonel's secret blend of herbs and spices and to never wanting to eat fried chicken ever again.-I stopped shredding and gained four pounds. Probably because I also consumed four pounds of cadbury eggs, chocolate marshmallow bunnies and a load of Hershey products all in a few short weeks. My insides feel disgusting. Time to detox! Who's coming with me?!-I read that Speidi will be honeymooning in Mexico. Can it be true? Will the apocalypse caused by this union be diverted if … [Read more...]
