4th of July Style Inspiration

Looking for something beyond the red, white and blue that is so prevalent this week?   Sandy, from Fashnboucou, and my guest blogger today offers up a few looks that will really set you apart this holiday. You can dress in patriotic spirit without being so literal. Ditch the cliché red, white and blue, and add some color and prints to your look this 4th of July. Mix the trio of hues with flirty prints and textures, like florals and lace. Make red, white, and blue work together by throwing in a fourth hue and adding a vintage-y mix of prints. I paired a colorful and flirty midi skirt by Saloni with a feminine daisy lace cami. Mixing prints as I did with the skirt and GoJane quilted clutch keep your look unfussy and cool. The neutral accessories won't distract from the bold color … [Read more...]

Family Fun in the 2014 Nissan NV200

The Nissan NV200, commonly seen on the streets of NYC in full-on taxi mode arrived at our house on one of the last weeks of school.  I looked at it and thought, "What on earth am I going to do with that?"  Turns out, a whole lot. If you're a taxi owner, ensure that you check out these tailored options for your taxi's insurance. … [Read more...]

Distressd Denim

Forget about showing off your softer side.  The pastels of early spring were fun for a while, but now it is time to embrace the rougher look that is distressed denim.  Show the wear and tear on that pair of ripped jeans, blue or white, and work it day or night. It’s easier and more fun than you think. Here’s how. Playing Dress Up Think you can’t be fancy in a pair of ripped Levi’s?  Think again. … [Read more...]

White on White

We are in the final countdown with school. Two kids are out and one to go! I'm excited to start the summer and have a more relaxed schedule. Yesterday, was the first day I didn't have to do three different drop-offs and pick-ups. The day felt longer, quieter and less rigid. We had space to expand our ideas, learn new things and even eat all together versus in a race to the next destination. Can the rest of summer be like that, please? All that probably means I won't be partaking in the white on white look as much as I would like this summer. I love it. It just says summer to me. Carefree days, cool looks and a real relaxed way no matter what you are wearing. … [Read more...]

Losing Your Hair? Is Your Mirena the Cause?

I'm re-posting this blog post, "I'm Losing My Hair.  Is My Mirena to Blame?" today because after all this time it is still the most-searched post.  I'm years out from my Mirena being removed and one kid later.  Ahem.  It took almost a year but my hair did grow back.  The symptoms like weight gain, feeling like I was being electrocuted and having a hard time focusing stopped almost as soon as my Mirena was removed.  Some people love this low-dose hormone birth control but it isn't for everyone.  It's typical to lose your hair after you have a baby. It happened with TD and then again with The Comedian. It's also typical to see your doctor for birth control options post-baby if you are not willing to get knocked up again. When I encountered the Mirena IUD it seemed like the perfect … [Read more...]

Finding Your Fitness Motivation

I freely admit that every once in a while I fall off the workout bandwagon. My fitness motivation just gets deleted. I don't actually stop working out I just end up shortening the duration of my work outs.  A combination of factors creates these mini-workouts.  Our daily schedule gets crowded, I lost track of time in the morning and by afternoon our schedule doesn't allow me a moment alone much less time to sweat.  Getting to the gym?  The travel time kills my motivation before I even grab my gym bag.  Three weeks will go by and suddenly I'm eating in a not so healthy way, the workouts get even shorter and then I can't even do the ones I did just a month before without getting totally winded and spent for the day. Let's face it. I'm not 22 or even 32.  The body changes rapidly but doesn't … [Read more...]

Striped Shirt, Two Ways

The last few days had me wearing a whole lot of old clothes. Worn khaki shorts with old t-shirts and speckles of paint over my decade old but trusty J.Crew flip flops. What does all that mean? I was immersed in projects around the house. We have been in our home ten years now. When we moved in we had no kids. We took weeks to paint each room and move ourselves into the house. Three kids, one dog and us and it is a house that is well-lived in and in need of some updates. It's all in good fun, I adore the new kitchen sink and granite countertops. I'm going to be tackling window treatments later this week and our front door has a fresh coat of paint. All work overseen or done by me and that feels pretty good. It doesn't bode well for Whatcha Wearing Wednesday though. I decided to give … [Read more...]

Get Close This Summer

This weekend it really hit me. Summer is here and the time spent at the pool, spray park and in less clothing is officially on! Shorts, skirts, bathing suits, sleeveless dresses and tops, all of it requires a bit more on the grooming side than say a bulky sweater and pair of jeans. … [Read more...]
