October Madness

You guys are well-informed about how much #iloveoctober.  It's an obsession that has me proclaiming, "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" every morning when I walk the girls to the bus stop and breathe in the smells of fresh-cut grass mixed with decaying leaves.  It's the best!  I call it October Madness So, when I got sick last week (hell, I'm still sick) at the very start of the week and just went downhill as the week progressed, I was not pleased.  It also played havoc on my work and any sort of fashion statements I was planning on making.  The fall festival?  I missed it.  Sitting in golden sunshine? Looked at it from a window as I lay in bed watching every episode of 'How to Get Away with Murder'.  All I am going to say is this, whatever it was I had, it was bad.  A mixture … [Read more...]

12 Effective Vitamins for Women’s Health

Untitled #311 by victoriamason featuring framed wall art   Vitamins are essential substances in the body, especially for women. Most of the vitamins are found in food that we take, and all can easily be obtained through proper choice of diet. However, some vitamins like Vitamin D are obtained from the skin when it is exposed to the sun. Vitamins are used in the body to maintain the functioning of the cell and its development. Surprisingly the vitamins needed by pregnant women are not the same as those of women at menopause. Food for pregnant women must always contain vitamin B12 and B6. All this is because the nutrients in the body perform the activities performed by the body. Therefore, vitamins and supplements contribute to the normal body functioning. The good news is … [Read more...]

Back to Nature

It's time to head back to nature. After spending the weekend fixing up little things in the house, getting it ready for fall and generally being busy it felt time to head back to nature. Sure, there were lots of runs outdoors but I'm talking color schemes and clothes here, people. Ready for date night with H. Olive lightweight sweater with dark denim and booties makes a perfect dinner and movie look.  This honeycomb style necklace was included in my last Stitch Fix box. I love it! It's the perfect pendant for any season and will work with a lot of looks. Have  you tried Smith & Cult nail polish yet?  If not, DO IT!  Even without a top coat your nails will last.  Though I add a gel coat top coat by Essie each time I still have no-chip nails for 4-5 days.  That … [Read more...]

Diesel Loves His Nutrish Zero Grain

The other night H and I were talking about our family and I told him that one of the best things to happen to us in this last year was getting our rescue dog, Diesel.  Our personalities are so similar to each other and I adore that he likes to sleep at the foot of my side of the bed, run with me, and protect me during a tickle fight attack brought on by H and the girls. He also groans every time H tells a corny joke and that is just pure gold right there. This dog has stolen my heart and it brings me so much joy to make him happy.  While I've already tucked away a few gifts for him for Christmas and we give him his thyroid medication daily we also feed him food that we found he cannot get enough of and devours in seconds.  Nutrish Zero Grain dog food (especially the Zero Grain Beef … [Read more...]

#NoTimeforFlu

The flu, it already hit our house a few weeks back and I was not prepared. The minute I realized that was why my youngest was feeling so low I went into action. As a busy family of five no one wants the flu to spread and Mom and Dad certainly don't have time to waste laying in bed shaking with the chills or burning up with a fever. Life must go on! Here's how we combat the flu in our house. Not sure if it is the flu or a cold?  Here are the flu symptoms and what to do if you or a family member gets sick. While it has already happened in our house, only one person got sick. I was so busy washing my hands, keeping everyone else away and wiping down everything she touched that I think we were saved. Next, WE ALL GET THE FLU VACCINE. We are heading to MinuteClinic this flu … [Read more...]

#iloveoctober

If you follow me on Instagram then you saw my #iloveoctober "obligatory fall post" already. It is also this week's featured look on Whatcha Wearing Wednesday's link up and another reason October is my favorite month.  It's all about warmth, golden sunshine and bright blue October skies. Obligatory fall Instagram shot. You're welcome. ‪#‎notaPSL‬ ‪#‎fall‬ ‪#‎plaid‬‪#‎booties‬ ‪#‎iloveoctober‬ ‪#‎douchiefallpost‬ The soft plaid shirt from Madewell I purchased from Shopbop last month. It is a bit over-sized and this is a size small, looks cute with the sleeves rolled up or down.  I did both on and off all day depending on how the wind was blowing.  Paired with low-heeled brown leather booties and my reliable boyfriend jeans (SALE ALERT!) the look was incredibly simple but garnered many … [Read more...]

Sparky’s Brain Busters Sparks Conversation

October is Fire Prevention month and this week is National Fire Prevention (NFPA) week and I now realize that since we have moved into this new house we don't have a plan in place. Sure, I clear a path from their bed to their windows each night and then the bed to their door making sure it is free of toys, clothes and whatever else my kids have crammed into their rooms; but that is not enough. We need to educate ourselves as a family on fire safety and now is the perfect time. Meet Sparky What's the best way to get my kids excited about something, especially the one in the 6-11 year-old range?  Use and app, of course.  Sparky's Brain Busters is a free app that uses trivia in math, social studies, science and fire safety to get kids learning.  Check it out. She loved that … [Read more...]

Denim on Denim

When it comes to parties, get-together's and events I have a tendency to stray from my comfort zone. At least in the last year or so it has been that way.  A white sequin dress for a gala vs. navy or black.  A leather skirt with a dress used as a top for a holiday work party.  This time it was a Thirty-One party I held at my house for friends on Saturday and I decided to go with denim on denim, a trend I didn't think I could pull off without being matchy-matchy, but instantly loved. I looked for daze organic cotton denim trying to find a few pieces that might match, and I really liked what I ended up choosing. So much so I kept the outfit on for date night too only adding a blanket scarf and clutch to round it out. The trick is to break it up and keep your shoes neutral. I added my … [Read more...]
