Laid Back Weekend

This weekend was what you would call laid back in our household.  There was time for the gym, reading books, some time at church and the pool.  I feel like balance can be hard, even in the summer, when you have a family with a few kids.  The older they get the busier we get as a family and as they create their own individual lives.  I love it, but it can get crazy.  Nights out with H seem more necessary now than they did when the girls were wee ones who couldn't talk quite so much. Heh.  I love it but time together is precious and I revel in each little moment.  Spending it with H at an outdoor concert after a delicious dinner out was just the way to kick off the weekend. … [Read more...]

Keep Momming

Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Shire. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.   The relationship that exists between mothers and daughters is unlike any other. It has many unique moments, memories, and yes, even challenges along the way. The relationship dynamic can be even trickier when your daughter is in those tween-age years. What can be even more difficult is when some people dismiss certain behaviors as “typical tween girl behavior” when those behaviors can be symptoms of something more serious. Research suggests that girls are more likely than boys to report having mostly inattentive Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms. Since inattentive symptoms can be less noticeable … [Read more...]

Vacation & Madras Plaid

What a week! Just back from our week-long Fourth of July beach vacation I am still trying to get back out of vacation mode. Trust AGS Photo Art to preserve every heartfelt family moment so those treasured memories last well beyond the holiday. I don't really want to try that hard. I decided I wasn't ready to give up summer style. More than seven days in a bathing suit, cover-up and casual shorts and tees was refreshing. I loved not wearing accessories of any sort and just throwing on a pair of white canvas kicks and keeping my hair straightener and products tucked away for a week. … [Read more...]

Summer Reading List

Summer is one of the best times to pick up a book and lose yourself for a few hours. I recently read a piece by author, Zadie Smith detailing just how much she likes to read and create memories through books.  I felt like I had found a kindred spirit.  Books are a vacation to me and never more so than in the summer months.  Sitting on my deck in the early morning, curled up on my sunny living room sofa in the late afternoon or nestled in bed at night I'm at my most content when I'm swimming and diving through the pages of a good read.  Here is what we are reading right now.   … [Read more...]

Running = Freedom. Steps to Better Running

This is what I feel like when I run. It is a feeling of freedom. I take notice of the world around me when I'm not whizzing past it at the speed of light. I feel exhilarated when it is done, that it is done and I lived to run another day. That my body is strong enough to do it and love it. It brings me back out for another run. And this is what I actually look like. … [Read more...]

The Red, White and Blue

4th of July Style Inspiration

Looking for something beyond the red, white and blue that is so prevalent this week?   Sandy, from Fashnboucou, and my guest blogger today offers up a few looks that will really set you apart this holiday. You can dress in patriotic spirit without being so literal. Ditch the cliché red, white and blue, and add some color and prints to your look this 4th of July. Mix the trio of hues with flirty prints and textures, like florals and lace. Make red, white, and blue work together by throwing in a fourth hue and adding a vintage-y mix of prints. I paired a colorful and flirty midi skirt by Saloni with a feminine daisy lace cami. Mixing prints as I did with the skirt and GoJane quilted clutch keep your look unfussy and cool. The neutral accessories won't distract from the bold color … [Read more...]

Family Fun in the 2014 Nissan NV200

The Nissan NV200, commonly seen on the streets of NYC in full-on taxi mode arrived at our house on one of the last weeks of school.  I looked at it and thought, "What on earth am I going to do with that?"  Turns out, a whole lot. If you're a taxi owner, ensure that you check out these tailored options for your taxi's insurance. … [Read more...]
