2014 KIA Sorento SX AWD

Disclosure: TMC was not paid for this post. Products received are for review purposes only. Opinions are TMC's only The 2014 KIA Sorento SX arrived at my door and no one noticed.  From the outside the Sorento looked so similar in size, color and shape to the previously reviewed SUV from the week before that no one could tell the difference. After two days of driving the Sorento the differences could not be ignored. Redesigned for 2014 the Kia Sorento SX with AWD is drastically different in look and feel.  Not much of the old model was left behind, which was I think is a step in the right direction.  The old ways of Kia still plague its reputation despite the fact that each year with some model or other the company continues to win over the car industry.  Trust me, I still … [Read more...]

Pour Le Monde Perfume

Disclosure: I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.   Perfume does not give me as big a rush as a new nail polish or lipstick but I do admit to being very finicky when it comes to my preferred scent.  Each year when Neiman Marcus has their bi-annual beauty event I think, "Oh! I'll just order something new and that's that." Never happens.  Unless I have tried it a few times and know that I love it, I cannot say "I love citrus scents, so any citrus will do." No way.  I love peppery perfumes too with bergamot but that hasn't always worked out.  While I do tend to adore a more spicy, zest-filled aroma I'm open to giving all … [Read more...]

Whatcha Wearing Wednesday-Oxblood & Leather

THE RUMORS ARE TRUE....  This has been me the last few weeks.  Minus the times I threw on a pair of shorts or boyfriend jeans to head to yet another doctor appointment, this is what I have been wearing for the last 3-4 weeks.  I don't know that I have ever been this sick in my life.  I spent every weekend in bed, and the last two weeks EVERY. DAY. IN. MY. BED.               OY. In fact, this look is a step up from two weeks ago when I was frequenting my favorite haunts- the kitchen, my bed and couch in pajama shorts and loose t-shirts.  Ah, pneumonia.  You suck. I hope to never see you again.  I'm totally getting that over-65 pneumonia shot next month. This is what I wish I was wearing instead... Oxblood & … [Read more...]

Beauty Love of the Week- Bic Soleil Shave & Trim

Disclosure: TMC was not paid for this post. Products are receive for review purposes only. Opinions are TMC's only.   Summer is officially over but that doesn't mean I'm about to let things go, if you know what I mean.  I'm talking about shaving, trimming, whatever it is you do to keep things neat and tidy in the bikini line department.  This summer I saw a lot of online buzz going on with BIC and their just launched Soleil Shave & Trim product.  I am a hair removal cream kind of girl.  It takes the same amount of time as shaving and irritates my skin way less, with no mean, red bumps.  I will shave the bikini area if I am in a hurry, but the results are short-lived and often come up looking less than stellar. An old friend asked me test out the BIC Soleil Shave & … [Read more...]

The Sensory Child Gets Organized Review

Disclosure: TMC was not paid for this post. Products received are for review purposes only. Opinions are TMC's only. One of the first things we learned as parents when The Fifth Element was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) was the importance of planning ahead and staying organized. We were lucky enough to receive services through our county's infant and toddler program which included speech and occupational therapy a few times a month. These sessions did not just help our daughter, they helped us as parents and as a family understand that the sensory child has a harder time than other kids navigating the world. It feels chaotic to them and they either seek or avoid stimulation to deal with their daily lives. … [Read more...]

Coin-Shaped Lithium Batteries- Protect Your Child From Swallowing Them Today

Disclosure: TMC was paid for this post in sponsorship with Energizer and The Motherhood, Battery Controlled and Safe Kids Worldwide.  Opinions and thoughts are TMC's only.  Three kids can bring a lot of emergency room visits.  I should know, I was there just last week when during bedtime the smallest one escaped tooth brushing duties and instead went exploring in my bathroom.  Not more than five minutes could have passed when I heard my middle child yell, "MOM!  The Fifth Element got into your cough syrup!!"  My heart stopped. My cough syrup isn't OTC, which is bad enough. It was just prescribed for pneumonia and contained codeine.  I rushed to her, sniffed her breath, saw a ton of cough syrup on the counter and asked her if she drank it. She burst into tears and I knew she had ingested … [Read more...]

2014 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD

The first thing people notice about the 2014 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD is the styling.  It is pretty sharp looking, especially with its Mazda Soul Red metallic paint and accompanying black interior. Those were the colors last week’s test drive.  The eye travels over this compact crossover and sees its narrow exterior that shows off a car that has more room overall than one would think.  It looks leaner and with a sporty quality to it.  A power moon roof and 19 –inch alloy wheels add to the smooth exterior. How does the CX-5 Grand Touring perform?  What is it like on the inside?  Let me tell you. Interior Climbing into the Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring, which seats five comfortably, I took notice of the satiny black interior and leather seats.  It is narrow seating in the … [Read more...]

Watcha Wearing Wednesday- Black, White & Blue

Fall is my favorite time of year. The humidity is gone, running feels refreshing and more energized, a new routine emerges as the kids head back to school and I begin to new projects at home and work. I love the colors, the approaching holidays and my personal favorite-Halloween! I plot and plan what we will wear and how I will decorate inside and outside the house while alternately trying not to create and shop for new fall and winter looks that will empty my bank account faster than a duck on a June bug. This is one of my favorite looks for this fall.  All the pieces can be worn together and then used in various other outfits making them great buys. Other looks I'm loving and copying with no shame are this neutral one from Shanna and the classic look with a modern twist by Nicole … [Read more...]

Falling Into Good Things

I'm sorry.  I couldn't resist that horribly cheesy title.  I'm reveling in the fall weather from my sick bed.  Or at least what looks like gorgeous fall weather from the open windows near my sick bed.  I have pneumonia.  It's tiring.  I'm tired of being sick. I'm focusing on the fun, good things going on later this month instead of the fact that I'm laying here in comfy leggings and t-shirts, napping more than my 12 year-old dog. 1.  Leather Leggings.                     I'm at a point in my life where I'm actually comfortable with my body. I like it. It is stronger than it has ever been and I feel better than I have in years. So I bought these faux leather leggings from Forever21. That site is my … [Read more...]

The Wantable Box

I'm sort of in love with that Wantable box logo. Just a little bit. So simple. So chic. So I NEED THIS! But do you really? Is it just like the other monthly box subscription services? I had to find out and gladly accepted a Wantable box for perusal. Clearly, I opted for the make-up version of a Wantable. Accessories and Intimates are available too. First things first, I went onto the Wantable site and created a profile that encompassed all my likes, dislikes and loves. Do I adore red lipstick? Yes! Do I need more eyeliner in black? No. You can pick color preferences, if you like more creams than metallic or liners versus mascara and there is even a section for how much you like pinks, reds, any color you can think of that pertains to make-up. It took about fifteen minutes total. … [Read more...]
