On Music & Memories

There is no question that music has power.  It can heal, move and excite in a variety of ways.  It lifts your spirits, charges you up, calms you down (Who just spent 6 hours in a car this past weekend listening to only classical music because that's all The Fifth Element can handle?  I did!) and music can stir up powerful memories. It has the power to bring back moments in time. It can also bring back moments that are absolutely silly and ridiculous. Like the Humpty Dance.  And Burger King bathrooms.  Actually I used to take the ultra chunky and compact Comedian when she was just a few month old blog and make her dance to that song nightly on our counter tops.  Babies.  They are highly entertaining in that way, aren't they? Sitting in the car yesterday I heard Michael Jackson's 'Rock … [Read more...]

The Back to School Chevy Challenge

Yes, I'm talking about going back to school.  I am so excited about it too!  Here's why- I've teamed up with Chevy and their Back to School Challenge to give one lucky, local reader a chance to win a $100 gift card for back to school supplies for their kids! Trust me, when I say I know how much this can do for a family.  When TD was just out of school in June (only last month!) I shelled out $52 for just one kid and her first grade school supplies.  In the next few years I will easily be spending $100 and more when all three girls are in school.  Those supplies did not count back packs or lunch boxes either. … [Read more...]

The Importance of UV-Protection for You and Your Kids

I wear my sunglasses all the time.  ALL THE TIME.  If it is winter, if it is dusk, if it is pre-dawn and I've been out rockin' till the early morn'. OK, who am I kidding. I am not out rockin' except for maybe once a year. Maybe.  I bet I have my sunglasses on though.  I wear them shoveling snow and even in the rain I can be seen sportin' my shades.  It is something I started doing in high school right around the time I stopped wearing glasses and started wearing contacts.  I cannot drive without sunglasses. I even wear them in the pool. My kids are a whole other story.  One that is fairly sad given that my genes and my spouses already have passed on some weak eyesight in at least one of our kids.  According to the Vision Council short-term exposure, like a day at the pool, can leave … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday

You might call this the bracelet edition.  I knew I liked bracelets but I had no idea until the past few weeks when I started wearing them to add something, anything! to my boring shorts and t-shirt combo that I've been sportin' to take us to Target, the grocery store, playground, spraygrounds, pool and more. … [Read more...]

On Being a Fit Parent

I didn't set out to be a fit parent.  I just wanted to lose the baby weight.  The 40 pounds that had accumulated on my 5'6" small-boned frame didn't sit well with me or my jeans.  I joined Weight Watchers and went back to the gym.  A year later I was in the best shape of my life. Take that no muscle-tone, size 5 and 25 year-old self! In the beginning I just wanted to fit in my old clothes and get back to doing what I did before I had TD.  I did the Avon Walk twice before her and after too.  I hit the gym regularly, enjoying the child-free time and clarity that only sweating or yoga can give me. … [Read more...]

My Paltry Attempt at Food Blogging

July 14, Bastille Day, sent me off on a bit of a culinary spree.  I wanted to make the girls something that went beyond my own tastes of the day as a child (doughboys with maple syrup with a dash of confectioners sugar) and start something new.  I decided to make Madeleine's. … [Read more...]

Fifty Shades of Summer

I don't want to say we are in the doldrums of summer but the combination of intense heat and our busy schedule has left us exhausted. The girls have begun their camp schedules this week and it is a revolving door of a house. I sort of welcome the minor reprieve to have just two kids versus three at various times. I think I am going to enjoy spending more time on each kid versus doling out attention all at once in a harried sort of way.  Photos from my Fifty Shades of Summer series after the jump. … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday

Dude.  I .  Well... I'm at a loss. I thought after being away for about a week I would feel all invigorated and want to just jump back into life and work. Meh.  Not so much. Life, yes.  I mean save the laundry and grocery shopping with three handsy kids who move like molasses in January but horray for bubbles! Baking! Pool time and reading books on the couch together when the afternoon sun heats up our little 'hood to scorching. … [Read more...]

Rockin’ the Neon Trend
