My Boycott of ‘The Hills’

At first, it was just that smarmy feeling. A tiny alarm bell that went off in the back of my brain as I watched 'The Hills' transfixed by the vapidness of it all and the clothes. Ah, the clothes. The first bell sounded when Heidi moved out of Lauren's apartment to move in with Spencer. I thought, "Well, no good will come of this."The following season it happened again. I watched with more alarm and a bit of foreboding as Heidi lost all her friends and was humiliated at work and in front of her co-workers (Vegas style). At the time I was angry at her boss for placing the blame on her and not her douche of a boyfriend, Spencer. He is clearly a boy, not a man, with whom she has no control or power over and yet she was the one being penalized. It wasn't right. Yet, I continued to watch. … [Read more...]

Mtv Haz Video?

Oh, wait. I'm a liar with mah pants on fiyah. It was VH-1 Nocturnal State I was watching at 4 a.m. this morning when I couldn't sleep. When I flicked on the TV I was overjoyed to be seeing actual music videos. What a novelty on a music station, no? Seriously! There was no 'I Love Money', 'Exiled' or shots of Brett Micheal's swappin' spit with a woman who wears less make-up than him. It was... dare I say it... refreshing? I did have to swallow some hot vomit as his video, Fallen, played across my screen. I watched bleary-eyed as he sang about one true love or something lasting more than two minutes while all of Rock of Love's season two's ladies paraded across the scene. Gah!If I wasn't suffering from insomnia and a bit off-kilter with balance I might have gotten up and danced on the … [Read more...]

If You Don’t Watch ‘The Hills’ Step Away From This Post

I admit to being an avid watcher of 'The Hills' which I like to refer to as a dramedy. I'll even cop to being disappointed about learning that Whitney only makes a mere $20K per episode and cackling like a banshee over comments on blogs about how Spencer Pratts salary of $65K is more than it would cost to put a hit out on him. Tee hee. I'm still snorting on that one. However, I do draw the line here- You know it's not the gold lame belt or the metallic-hued leotard that gets me. It's not even Ms. Montag's giant 1970s Western Barbie-esque hair (girls got to stick to her CO roots, I suppose.) it is the poor schmuck in the back. Yup. The one in the peach leotard and stache. Am I alone in thinking that is Jamie Kennedy hiding back there wondering where his career went horribly wrong? You … [Read more...]

Random Question #152

I didn't watch Rock of Love I or II (yes, I do know that Amber won out this round) and I'm no American Idol fan so I think it is all perfectly well and good that I may have a tad bit of an unhealthy love for this seasons series of the Bachelor.OK, who am I kidding...This season? Let's go with every season, except for the Pro-Bass fisher Byron one he just looked like a Ken doll left out in the sun too long. And truthfully? I don't watch for the hottie bachelor. Because, ick. I find them quite unappealing, except for this season. Here's the thing. I am addicted to this show. There is nothing I like more than waking up on Tuesday morning and queuing up the DVR to this inexplicably still on television show. Who did the Bachelor kick off? What disastrous moments occurred? Was there baby talk that … [Read more...]

Bill Clinton is on the phone. Will you take the call?

Overheards from our house last night. Scene: Dinner at our house, H & I are conversing about our day. I am discussing the 'Open Letter' to the Presidential candidates on DC Metro Moms.V: It seems that we can't get the candidates to talk to us. Their people keep volunteering their wives instead. Well, that's sweet and stuff and no offense, but we've already talked to some and now we are screaming, "NO! We want YOU, the candidate."H: So you guys won't talk to Bill then, huh?V: Ugh. No, Mr. Smarmy-pants is a spouse too. Besides, I'd probably have to put a dental dam on the phone just to take the call.Later in the evening....V: You are watching what?! I didn't quite hear that correctly.H: Colorsplash. COLORSPLASH!V: Excuse me, what?! You mean the Design Star winner who is always painting … [Read more...]

My TV Watching Days are Numbered

It is painfully obvious that the writer's strike needs to come to a resolution. Like um. Now. No baking to be done. No more presents to wrap I had just settled in for a long winter's... night of TV viewing alone. Yeah! I can watch anything I want. No one will care if I watch crap TV.Except there isn't anything on! I began to panic as I scrolled through the guide of my possible choices. Lots of Home Shopping to watch, which shows how unscripted they are despite how fake and set everything else seems on those half hour bonanzas of rose gold and diamondnique must haves. Then I found it. A full block (we're talking four back to back episodes here people) of the Sugarbakers a.k.a. the best of the shoulder pads and big hair Designing Women on TVLand. That's right. I said it. Suzanne, Julia, … [Read more...]

Barbapapa Lives!

On YouTube. Anyone else watch this show as a kid? It was on a Canadian channel when I was growing up in N.E. If I didn't have the books to prove it no one would believe me when I talk about this show. It was a favorite of mine and T.D. loves the books despite them being ratty and almost thirty years old. … [Read more...]

PBS Obsessions

I love television. As a kid I ate nearly every meal that I could get away with in front of the tube. I dressed for school while watching 'Heathcliff'. I watched Love Boat and ate cheese sandwiches. Charlie's Angels and Dukes of Hazzard? Accompanied with Doritoes. The Muppets were after Saturday night bathtime with a bowl of popcorn and juice. I've been told that I watched almost an entire day of the Carter Inauguration. I was a year and a half. I was apparently so fascinated my mother couldn't break me away. As an infant I fell asleep on my father's chest to the evening news. I clearly remember watching 'War and Rememberance' and each segment of 'North and South', a series I annually annoy H with. There's a theme here. I love TV and I especially love historical TV dramas. So is it … [Read more...]
