Trunk Club Review

When H started using Trunk Club last year I was instantly jealous.  A GINORMOUS box full of quality, stylish clothing and shoes was delivered to his door with at least ten items to choose from and all pre-approved by him. What the...? We don't have those choices in the women's box subscriptions.  Plus, I hate shopping with him but having him try stuff on in our bedroom was ridiculously easy and fun.  I wanted a Trunk Club box of my own! Wish granted! My first box from my stylist Gretchen arrived last week and I hauled it inside with great excitement. I knew was was inside because the preview email was sent a few days earlier and now I just had to open it, try everything on and I had TEN DAYS in which to make my decisions.  Here's what was inside: Rag and Bone Scoop Neck Cotton … [Read more...]

Spring Road Trip Style

*Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links.  TMC was compensated for this post.  Opinions are 100% my own.    I love a good road trip.  Whether it is going down to the shore in the summer to visit my parents as a family or taking the girls on a spring break trip. That last one is my personal favorite because to me, spring means road trips.  A time when you can relax, take in some new sights, see spring in full effect and get a new perspective with all that fresh air. Naturally, I believe you need to look good doing it too. I'm talking spring road trip style. I'm in love with ModCloth and their romantic road trip style.  Think soft pastels, boho chic, buttery leather jackets, fabulous boots and flowered dresses.  It's so very spring and so very refreshing.  All of it … [Read more...]

What to Wear: Holiday Travel

Whether you are like me, a total planner, or someone who waits until the last minute to figure out what to wear and pack for holiday travel the key is to be both comfortable and stylish.   I am a total non-supporter of sweat pants on the plane.  Maybe some cute joggers but looking sloppy or traveling in your pj's over the age of five is not on my to-do list. Ever. Especially when wearing something as cute and comfy as this is an option. I wore this little look last week and loved it so much.  Perfect for travel days too. SHOP THE LOOK Old Navy Striped Top (old-similar/similar)/Burgundy scarf/Old Navy Open-Front Poncho/Merona Riding Pants /Forever 21 Lace Cut Out Slip-On Sneakers (similar)/Cole Haan Rockland Hobo Bag (old-similar)   I'll be wearing this this on a travel … [Read more...]

cozyUP This Season

It got windy and cold fast here in the last few days.  It took the last remaining leaves right off the trees and sent us all indoors for a few days.  Perfect weather for getting cozy and doing things like drinking endless funny coffee mugs of chai tea, baking ginger pumpkin cupcakes and curling up with a good book. Feeling cozy translates to what we are wearing too.  Whether you love flannel pajamas or comfy slippers lined with fur you feel nestled, warm and safe.  That means a lot these days.  Soft, fuzzy sweaters and booties pair well in this kind of world and weather.  Right now I'm loving nothing more than this look. I picked up the red denim jeans from Old Navy at thredUP a few weeks back.  I had been on the search for a decent pair since last winter!  I wanted just right … [Read more...]

Whatcha Wear to the WAPA Rally

Last Thursday I finally crawled out from under my deathbed, finally feeling better (!) just in time to attend one of my favorite events of the year, The WAPA Rally.  WAPA is The Washington Automotive Press Association and I've been a member for a few years now. Each October we take to the roads and get to drive some of the newest, most luxurious, most fun and just plain awesome cars in the industry. This year was no exception.  I drove everything from a Mercedes-Maybach S600 to a F-Type Jaguar coupe, a Ford Explorer and Edge to a Volvo XC90 and a few more in between.  It was a glorious fall day and I was dressed to drive. In years past I have found that a mix of casual style with comfort is best for these events.  Last month it was a structured top with flare leg denim and nude … [Read more...]

October Madness

You guys are well-informed about how much #iloveoctober.  It's an obsession that has me proclaiming, "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" every morning when I walk the girls to the bus stop and breathe in the smells of fresh-cut grass mixed with decaying leaves.  It's the best!  I call it October Madness So, when I got sick last week (hell, I'm still sick) at the very start of the week and just went downhill as the week progressed, I was not pleased.  It also played havoc on my work and any sort of fashion statements I was planning on making.  The fall festival?  I missed it.  Sitting in golden sunshine? Looked at it from a window as I lay in bed watching every episode of 'How to Get Away with Murder'.  All I am going to say is this, whatever it was I had, it was bad.  A mixture … [Read more...]

#iloveoctober

If you follow me on Instagram then you saw my #iloveoctober "obligatory fall post" already. It is also this week's featured look on Whatcha Wearing Wednesday's link up and another reason October is my favorite month.  It's all about warmth, golden sunshine and bright blue October skies. Obligatory fall Instagram shot. You're welcome. ‪#‎notaPSL‬ ‪#‎fall‬ ‪#‎plaid‬‪#‎booties‬ ‪#‎iloveoctober‬ ‪#‎douchiefallpost‬ The soft plaid shirt from Madewell I purchased from Shopbop last month. It is a bit over-sized and this is a size small, looks cute with the sleeves rolled up or down.  I did both on and off all day depending on how the wind was blowing.  Paired with low-heeled brown leather booties and my reliable boyfriend jeans (SALE ALERT!) the look was incredibly simple but garnered many … [Read more...]

Denim on Denim

When it comes to parties, get-together's and events I have a tendency to stray from my comfort zone. At least in the last year or so it has been that way.  A white sequin dress for a gala vs. navy or black.  A leather skirt with a dress used as a top for a holiday work party.  This time it was a Thirty-One party I held at my house for friends on Saturday and I decided to go with denim on denim, a trend I didn't think I could pull off without being matchy-matchy, but instantly loved. I looked for daze organic cotton denim trying to find a few pieces that might match, and I really liked what I ended up choosing. So much so I kept the outfit on for date night too only adding a blanket scarf and clutch to round it out. The trick is to break it up and keep your shoes neutral. I added my … [Read more...]

Burgundy & Mustard

Last week I talked about fall's hot colors- burgundy, mustard and olive. They go well with everything. It was totally on my brain and Old Navy's when I stepped into the store last Friday and picked up this lightweight burgundy-wine colored sweater. I love the dolman-style fit that works well with a pencil skirt, my old standby mustard jeans or any kind of denim. I can't wait to pair it with wide-leg dark denim too. As much as I wanted to with this casual look, high-quality pictures just could not happen this week.  I didn't even have time for well-placed instagram shots.  That's life! Stacked rings can make a statement. Leopard is the new neutral.  I love it more than ever. SHOP THE LOOK Old Navy Raglan Sleeve Sweater in Wine Purple/Kohl's Mustard Jean (0ld-similar)/American … [Read more...]

The FABulous Journey

It's our third installment in the interview series, this week it is a FABulous Journey with Shellie from The FABulous Journey. While she says her blog is all about fashion, fitness and fulfillment for the 40 and over set she shows that these are parts of our life we crave and want to update or maintain at any age. Her site is a calm and entertaining refuge in a sea of blogs that can sometimes overwhelm. 1. You blog about fashion and fitness on a regular basis. What do you find most fun and fulfilling? Are they one in the same topic? Fashion and fitness are two aspects of life that I derive great joy and satisfaction from. I believe both pursuits add to my life and boost my confidence. Fashion enhances my personality, while fitness bolsters my health and mood. Yes, I guess you … [Read more...]
