What I Wore Wednesday

It's time for this week's edition of awkward photos and What I Wore Wednesday!  It seems hard enough lately to remember to take a picture of what I'm wearing.  Besides lately it's been rather practical for working out, preschool drop off and cleaning the house.  I promise I'll take a date night pic this weekend. … [Read more...]

Diagnosis: Over Stimulated Parent

It was the email titled, "Pizza, Pizza!" that just shoved me right over the edge.  The day already felt long.  The weekend had felt that way too.  In fact, every day lately has been a bit of a slog with me feeling ever closer to that "edge" that parents all talk about. As I sat in preschool car line waiting for The Comedian to come out of school I checked my email and found the 'pizza' one from her teacher.  An impromptu field trip, "what fun!"  My brain seized.  All at once I felt angry, defeated and yes, I will admit to a little bit whiney. It's just. I just. I can't. I felt frozen as I searched my swirling, over-crowded brain for what that day might contain on the schedule.  Did we have Occupational therapy or speech that day?  Was it the one day all week that I had a … [Read more...]

Nude Nails & Shades of Green

Spring brings about thoughts of rebirth, green shoots and fresh ideas. I'm in love with the look of darker nude nails for this spring and the green shadow trend.  BB creams are still a must-have for glowing skin.  I have included a splurge and save and other great products to add to your spring list.  … [Read more...]

Get R.I.P.P.E.D.

I've read that the more rage you have in you the harder you need to work physically.  I must have a lot of rage because I am in love with the new class at my gym called, R.I.P.P.E.D. As part of my lazy New Year's resolutions I wanted to see if I could get in really great shape this year. Actually see some definition in my arms and you know, not just lose a size or something.  I wanted to gain endurance. To get there I decided I needed to take a class that actually scares me.  There's Jungshin but that scares me in the way that it has us using fake swords and suddenly all I can picture is George Michael using a lightsaber in his garage again.  So, R.I.P.P.E.D.  An hour of bursts of cardio and then weights in between.  It is high-energy, of course.  It takes stamina and a … [Read more...]

Colored Moto & Bomber Jackets Under $100

I've been in love with motorcycle jackets and short leather bombers ever since I can remember. The one time I found a black one at Contempo Casuals in the mid 90s was like a dream come true. I was my very own version of Bridget Fonda from 'Singles'. I have a different version these days that I found at my local Target and it makes me happy and gives my outfits a bit of an edge every time I wear it. I love that they are back and in a variety of colors too. Here are my faves all at accessible stores and under $100. … [Read more...]

My New Mantra. It Ain’t ‘Om’.

Somewhere in the last few months it would be easy to categorize my emotions as saying that I just stopped caring.  I stopped caring what other people thought, I stopped caring what I thought about other people and I stopped getting so spun out about work and our schedule. I lump it all together as if it was all so easy but that's never the case.  It is as if I turned 36 and much like the year I turned 30 it was a fabulous year in so many ways and in other aspects truly awful.  The big girl panties I thought I was wearing no longer fit and I had to go up a size.  God, that is awful. I think the death of someone you love dearly, sudden or not, will do that to you.  The realization that your child isn't quite like all the others is another.  The added bonus and realization that … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday

I took no pictures of myself this week.  Too busy with prep, living life and being in the moment to focus on this stuff.  Instead here is an example of what I wore to Christmas Eve service at church with my family and to our dinner afterwards.  The dinner where we put the kids to bed and then sat down to eat.  Heaven on earth is a plate of steak au poivre, matchstick fries, crisp and garlicky green beans and a chocolate caramel torte for dessert. … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday-Holiday Glam

I am not in this game this week. I cannot think about what to wear.  It's all workout clothes that never make it to the gym and jeans with t-shirts. What with the cookie baking that verges on obsession, the house cleaning that is negligible and all the school projects, activities, gifts to wrap and holiday cheer to force down people's throats spread. SO in lieu of all that I created what I wish I was wearing this Christmas morning versus what I will probably be wearing.  And that would be pajamas. Menswear pajamas but still pajamas.  … [Read more...]

Hello Old Foe- Insomnia Encroaches

After three days of sleep I thought a corner had been turned.  But the jarring sound of a bathroom stool being scraped across the floor, a fitful four hours of sleep and a scratch that shook the bed like a dog with a bad case of fleas it was no use.  At 2 a.m. the day was going to begin. This is insomnia. … [Read more...]
