Hello Old Foe- Insomnia Encroaches

After three days of sleep I thought a corner had been turned.  But the jarring sound of a bathroom stool being scraped across the floor, a fitful four hours of sleep and a scratch that shook the bed like a dog with a bad case of fleas it was no use.  At 2 a.m. the day was going to begin. This is insomnia. … [Read more...]

The Booty Fixer

Part of being a parent, to me, is being healthy. Healthy in body and mind, as much as you can be. I won't say it is easy but it is definitely worth it. The strength, energy, stamina and ability to lug kids and groceries and get a better nights sleep all because I exercise on a regular basis makes me feel a thousand times saner and balanced. Plus, my kids love the ridiculous insanity of the kid zone at the gym. It's a win-win. Except on those days where I look at my crumb-riddled floors, laundry monster growling at me from the depths of the basement and piles of work that are hitting deadlines and I think, … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday

Another week of incredibly wonky photos of me! YES! I know you have been dying for it. The bad lighting, the awkward shots! At least you get a laugh.  And I went out on a limb with color combination this week. So without further ado it's What I Wore Wednesday... … [Read more...]

The Marathon of Marriage

Two years ago this month I wrote about the state of my marriage with the post, 'Words'.  Then 'Words Opened Doors', literally.  A tense week before Christmas H and I decided that while we weren't speaking to each other except in front of the kids we would stay together for the holiday and go from there.  A few weeks later marriage counseling began and we had hope.  We hoped to work out our differences to stop that fights that had vicious moments where we screamed at the top of our lungs, "I HATE YOU!"  so violently that it left me exhausted. Yes, that was me and I did. A lot.  I hated him and what we had become.  The feeling was mutual.  We had become stunted, afraid to speak our true thoughts and realize that things had changed. Months of counseling went by, individually and together … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday

Oh readers I had such high hopes for last weeks outfits.  I packed for our Thanksgiving holiday loaded down with accessories, boots and more.  Did I take any photos of those outfits? Nope, not a one.  The only photos I have of me from our entire five day trip is this - Stylin' at the Turkey Trot, y'all!  … [Read more...]

I’m Grateful for You

There are some times that I forget that you are gone.  I think to myself, it has only been a little while since we last spoke or emailed each other.  My brain tells me that I should really pick up the phone and call or send a message.  Then I remember that none of those things can happen. The distance that I'm feeling will remain forever and I can't have those times back. … [Read more...]

Fit Parent Protein Shake

I'm not one to post recipes but every once in a while I have something to share. As part of my fit parent routine I have incorporated this protein shake into my weekly menu. It's fast, easy and tastes great. Even better, it involves Autocrat Coffee Milk Syrup. Yum! Ingredients (Place everything in the blender.) 1 cup skim milk 1 banana 1 handful of spinach leaves, torn into pieces 1/2 tbsp flax-seed 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (any type) Drizzle of Autocrat Blend until smooth. Drink up! *Sometimes I eliminate the Autocrat and add a dash of cinnamon instead. … [Read more...]

Happy Fourth Birthday

The Comedian turned four this weekend.  My original baby or 'OG Baby' as I like to call her is off to school, taking dance classes and adores all things Tinkerbell.  When we asked her what she wanted to do for her birthday, we felt sure it would be a bug-themed child's birthday party or time at the parent-dreaded Chuck E Cheese.  Instead she floored us with the big girl choice of the American Girl store.  Mecca to her older sister, it seemed she had no interest in this place only months ago and yet there we were on Saturday morning loading up a red bag with Molly gear that made her squeal.  She took one look at the bespecaled Molly and said,  "You  have glasses like me. I like you.  C'mon! Let's go!"  And off they went. … [Read more...]

Get Your Family Ready for Flu Season

There are five people in my house. I know, no matter how many times I say it, I'm still surprised too. When one of us gets sick we all get sick. MinuteClinic asked me and my family to show how easy it is to get the whole family their flu shots all at once, no appointment necessary.  … [Read more...]
