It’s Nothing Like Last Time

I feel I should check in despite it being a Sunday (read: a day I don't normally post on) because-A. My blog is making my Dad nervous.2. I've had a lot of concerned emails, new twitter follows and some comments that are longer than the norm expressing heartfelt concern and love. I can't even begin to thank you all for all of it. It never ceases to amaze me that the Internet is my friend.andD. I made cupcakes and didn't frost them so clearly there is a problem. If you got that screwed up sequencing then you get a gold star. It's from Home Alone if you didn't.And now for the update:I did some talking with H this weekend. However, all that came after this amazing woman came to my rescue. Really, if someone had told me that a blogger would show up on my front step less than two hours after I … [Read more...]

Biting the Big One

I'm not quite sure where to begin. It's not like when I was younger and I could just go off for a few days, write some deeply unprofound thoughts in my journal, break a few things and take a series of long drives. I barely have time to remember to turn off the burners on the stove these days much less time to figure out what is normal. That's the thing- I don't know what is normal anymore.I don't think it is normal to keep thinking such incredibly sad, circular thoughts. Thoughts that don't even make sense. Like sitting down feeding Dash Two and remembering the death of my 6th grade friend's mother. The crack in her twelve year old voice as she called from the hospital to let me know that it had finally happened. Suddenly, that memory is playing over and over again in my mind and I feel the … [Read more...]

Goodbye, My Love

It was the absence of sound that first drew my attention. H kept pressing down on the little button of our beloved Krups coffee grinder and only one sound could be heard- Deafening silence. The buzzing, whirring purr of the grinder was gone. I looked at H in panic as I put Dash Two down into her sweetpeace for a nap. Heavens to mercatroid! Say it isn't so!! Not my love, my coffee grinder!H could read the overwhelming panic in my eyes. It was either that or my rapid, ragged breaths that made him realize that this was not something that was allowed to happen. He threw out some casual suggestions about how to make coffee in a house that contains no less than eight canisters or bags of beans and not one of them ground. Ask a neighbor? Pfftt.... Though now that I think about it I do know … [Read more...]

You Know You Are a Blogger If…

1. You have your "real life" friends and your online friends who you might not have ever met. You can have close relationships with both.2. You are dying to attend CES each year. In your previous life you didn't know what CES even is or that you "needed" all its lovely gadgets.3. You have been paid half in real cash money and half in product.4. Your family thinks you speak a foreign language because you speak of such things as Twitter, tweeting, vlogs, wordpress and can conduct business on Facebook.5. You start sentences with, "I'm so blogging this..."6. Your friends and family start stories with, "Please don't blog this..."7. You get to know PR people really well.8. Why I’ll Never Take a Cruise

Four Inch HeelsA Long, Steep StaircaseAbout Three Greyhounds (the drink people, I'm not talking about the dog)On a boat. Er, dinner cruise.I can't tell you how bad I almost bit it when I had to trek down those stairs to use the loo at one point. Who puts a bathroom on a boat down stairs? Next to the engines? I'm just glad I don't have some sort issue regarding noise distractions and such. It was bad enough swaying while I peed. And the ice? The black water? You know what one word I kept thinking about all night long. Throw in some severely armed Coast Guard guys because God only knows what a few engineers might get up to once they set sail on the Potomac and it was an interesting night.I'm still trying to acclimate myself to the frickin' freezing temps on the East Coast, get some sleep and … [Read more...]

Calling Webster’s Dictionary

I'm tweeting, I'm IM'ing, and um... yeah, not really posting or doing anything worky right now. Oh wait. That is my job.In the midst of it all I think I made up a new word today- blogfrence. I think it's pretty self explanatory. I'm totally calling it and when the NYTimes uses it in the next few months for one of their articles about bloggers and how we seem to all be superstars or what have you they are going to have to refer back to me. The same goes for Newsweek. Mine! Not satisfied with my meager blog post today? Check out some of these fine ladies. … [Read more...]

I’m a Way Bigger Dork than I Thought

From the land of the intensely liberal and oh my god! is that Steve Jobs? I might just squee if it is. I'm in NoCA for a bit and lovin' the balmy sixty degree temps, the food, the drink, the swag, the drinks. Will there be more drinks later? What? It's Cali- no one smokes here. If you even think about it they look at you like you are beating a sack of puppies with a sack of kittens at a children's birthday party. I've already seen more yogis than I can shake a protein-infused aromatherapy stick at. Seriously- a girl could geek out here big time. If um.. she was prone to such things, which I'm like clearly not. Yeah, right. Who am I kidding? I check into my hotel (hello Stanford!) and rip open my bag 'o' goodies looking for the tech loot-mmm... tasty new flip camcorder all for me... oh … [Read more...]

Eight Weeks

I woke up this morning and realized that Dash Two is eight weeks old now. My, how time flies. I'm back at the gym, she has slept through the night for the first time and no matter what we do she is growing up at a remarkably fast pace. Those tiny baby days are gone already. She is reaching milestones at lightening speed and it was at this point with TD that I was already back at work. While I'm still not feeling out of the woods yet as far as PPD goes, I do know that my bad bout with it coincided with my going back to work. Oddly enough, it is this same week in Dash Two's life that I'm heading out of town for the first time. I know she will be in good hands and if anything happens we have a plan but it just amazes me how fast time goes and how small she seems. I had no choice with TD. I had … [Read more...]

I’m All About Trying to be Better and Stuff

Because I don't even want to get into how many times I was up last night, discovering busted breast pump pieces at 3 a.m. or the tantrum that occurred in our house in the middle of the night that wasn't by one of the people possessing the XX chromosomes in our house- I give you this- 2009- The Year of the Mom.Feel free to print that zen-like button out and stick it somewhere - like your bosses head- or your car. Everyone in the carpool line will think you are like, totally in the know and they aren't, despite your Mom jeans. I kid. But not about the Mom jeans. Seriously. Don't even donate those suckers. Just light them on fire and buy yourself something from 2009.If 2008 was the year that women went nuts for a teenage vampire and a whiny girl who has no apparent appeal whatsoever, except … [Read more...]

The Modern Day Lullaby

It's probably not good that I found myself singing Dash Two this song today as a lullaby. I'm that tired. To be fair, is there anything really wrong with cornbread? I didn't think so. How many of you have caught yourself singing some inappropriate song to a little one anyways? I can't be the only one guilty of this.Maybe next week when I've gotten some gym time courtesy of those free week long passes gyms string you along with. You know the ones- where they hope upon hope that you'll cough up an introductory fee, your left lung and perhaps some free local press after they suck an additional transaction fee out of your bank account just because. Maybe then I'll feel more energized and I'll be awake enough for date night (ooh date night- a.k.a. asleep by 9 p.m.) where a white Russian … [Read more...]
