May the Course Be With You

Early morning, post-workout pics just for you! "May the course be with you." I hear that faint Obi-Wan voice in my head every time I run a race.  It was pretty perfect that one of my friends gave me that very tank by Raw Threads for my birthday.   I've been on a fairly serious fitness kick the last month or so.  I am straight up ADDICTED to 15- minute daily Betty Rocker workouts (thanks, Facebook!).  She's too energetic for me when I start the work out but by the end I'm smiling and so happy I checked in for the  day.  I've noticed major results too.  It's fifteen minutes. I have that, and only that … [Read more...]

Spearmint & White

I think I might have a bit of a J.Crew problem.  This spearmint and white look is just a small glimpse into the collection of chino shorts I've amassed in the last few years (at least 8 pairs and counting). When the Trunk Club stylist asked me to share a store that showed my style I immediately said "J.Crew!" While I love the regular store the Factory store is right by my house, so is the newer Mercantile version, and so I tend to pop in to the Factory for a quick "5 minutes, I swear!" and walk out realizing they know me now.  It's effortlessly chic, comfortable and very me.  No apologies. Easy Sunday style. The perfect look for Brunch.   J.Crew Factory Gingham Classic Button-Down Shirt in Boy Fit 'Vivid Spearmint'/J.Crew Factory 5" Chino Short/J.Crew Factory Stone Drops … [Read more...]

The Fortieth Birthday Party

*Disclosure: Compensation is received through affiliate links.  All opinions are 100% my own. What do you get when you take Jaws, a Darth Vader cake, a healthy dose of Mommie Dearest, and a DJ? A whole LOT of FUN and my fortieth birthday party. A little pre-party champagne before heading out to my party. For me, the perfect recipe for a good time is just three things: friends, dancing and cake. I had all that and more thanks to H and a few helpful friends who put together a night I will always remember. A quick check with an age calculator beforehand made the celebration feel even more official. Months ago, H told me he wanted to throw me a party with dancing.  I immediately started thinking of party ideas.  Since it wouldn't be at our house there was room for a DJ and maybe … [Read more...]

Gingham and Mint

It is like the word that must not be spoken.  The 'R' word.  It started back in April and has not let up since making wearing anything in gingham and mint feel like a joke. This spring would feel like a bust here in the DMV if it were not for a few bright, warm days when I can break out some of the seasons fresh colors and trends. When the sun came out for one day last week all I could think of was breaking out my retired aqua Coach tote bag and these three things. D'orsay flats, a gingham button down and mint denim. The peeped out for a few moments that day and warmed this up just a bit. No Hunter rain boots today! How to Dress for an 80s Party

I've said it before and I'll say it again, my neighborhood does some fun stuff, including throwing an "I Love the 80s" party last weekend. After winning best dressed I decided to put together a little guide for How to Dress for an 80's Party. I would say it is a definite trend too.  My Facebook feed regularly fills up with throwback parties and people dressing prom jump suits; when let's face it we could all be working at the school on the regular and no one would be suspecting us of being undercover cops. STEP 1: Are you a Madonna? Or do you identify with Molly Ringwald or a Joan Collins from Dynasty? I choose Madonna. My hair is short and I knew I could work with it. STEP 2: Take to the Internet and research the look. I wanted something that wasn't complicated.  Could I … [Read more...]

Blue Stripes & White Denim

*Disclosure: Compensation is received through affiliate links.  All opinions are 100% my own. The rare sunny days we have had lately have made me yearn even more for light colors like blue stripes & white denim. Cooler temps prevail making long sleeves and denim are still needed daily. I love pairing it with my latest trench too. Excuse the lighting on the photo.  The rain has cast a crazy gloom over anything that no lighting can fix. Runner Style

Guys, this weekend was it. It was all about runner style and having fun.  After months of training, I did it.  My first ten mile race!  I have done half-marathons before but for some reason I felt that this one was bigger. The George Washington Parkway Classic was one I have wanted to run for years and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. I was nervous about this race. I haven't run that far in a few years.  Training in the winter can be rough and that was a majority of my time on the pavement.  When I hit four miles in training I hit a wall.  My body was too tired from every day life.  I started taking Thrive supplements (which I was totally not a believer of) and immediately noticed a difference in my abilities while running, during recovery and afterwards.  I don't think I … [Read more...]

All the Pretty Flowers

*Disclosure: TMC was not compensated for this post.  Compensation is received through affiliate links. TheMummyChronicles.com occasionally receives vendor/ brand sponsorships for mentioning their products and services. I am not into a lot of prints. That is of no surprise to anyone, is it? I think it was hearing that as a kid and then teen I was too small in stature to carry off any type of print from stripes to all the pretty flowers and any type of loud color.  I'm serious.  So breaking into the floral trend, which is so stunning in spring was hard, but I love it too much to ignore.  I'm also co-hosting with Angela from Reason to Dress, so please check her out and join in!  Don't we all need a dress this flowy and fabulous to make us feel beautiful? Working For It

There comes a time before every race that I know I have to bite the bullet and actually run the full distance of the race. A practice run, really.  Even if I know I have accumulated those miles before or I've come just a mile under I still have to physically run that full distance to get my head in the right place. That up there?  Bane and me running hard on Monday. Because ready or not my 10 miles loomed large and had to be done even if it sucked up more than half of my morning. Because... Source: fitcanhappennow.com How I feel mid-run. While I wanted to wear this cute tank I picked up this winter the weather still wasn't ready for it.  Maybe spring will really be sprung from the evil clutches of Old Man Winter by this weekend as I start to taper off in my mileage. A Little Wine & Design

One of the things I love about my neighborhood is that we hold a lot of events.  It can be family-oriented one month, a guys night or in the case of this past weekend a little time with friends, neighbors and new connections brought together by wine and a little bit of painting, which was great as I love wine, and even get it often from sites like qkawine.com. It turned cold earlier that day with the winds whipping around making me forget the idea of running 8 miles and instead focus on being warm and comfortably cute. I brought out the cocoon sweater again and paired it with my gray denim and nude flats for new take on old favorites. The final product.  Warmer days are ahead! RIGHT?!
