Style Inspiration: Angelina Jolie

Growing up in New England I was pretty traditional in my color choices. Lots of navy, red, white, khaki and a whole lot of black.  Black was my color pick of every occasion, it is classic and never goes out of style.  It worked with my personality and always made me feel comfortable.  It wasn't exciting but it worked.  As I edged out of my twenties and into my thirties I found a friend was pushed my no color boundaries and suddenly I found myself grabbing yellows, greens and aqua, even light pink to wear on a daily basis.  Honestly, it was scary but also a tiny bit freeing.  As the years past my wardrobe glowed with color.  I reveled in it.  … [Read more...]

White on White

We are in the final countdown with school. Two kids are out and one to go! I'm excited to start the summer and have a more relaxed schedule. Yesterday, was the first day I didn't have to do three different drop-offs and pick-ups. The day felt longer, quieter and less rigid. We had space to expand our ideas, learn new things and even eat all together versus in a race to the next destination. Can the rest of summer be like that, please? All that probably means I won't be partaking in the white on white look as much as I would like this summer. I love it. It just says summer to me. Carefree days, cool looks and a real relaxed way no matter what you are wearing. … [Read more...]

Striped Shirt, Two Ways

The last few days had me wearing a whole lot of old clothes. Worn khaki shorts with old t-shirts and speckles of paint over my decade old but trusty J.Crew flip flops. What does all that mean? I was immersed in projects around the house. We have been in our home ten years now. When we moved in we had no kids. We took weeks to paint each room and move ourselves into the house. Three kids, one dog and us and it is a house that is well-lived in and in need of some updates. It's all in good fun, I adore the new kitchen sink and granite countertops. I'm going to be tackling window treatments later this week and our front door has a fresh coat of paint. All work overseen or done by me and that feels pretty good. It doesn't bode well for Whatcha Wearing Wednesday though. I decided to give … [Read more...]

Three Things I Know

This weekend was a bizarre mix of emotions for me. Full of activities, some serious down time and me crying into a plate of eggs. It could have spelled disaster but I was determined, though weary, to not let someone else's bad, ill-timed comments get the best of me, especially on my birthday weekend. All of it, mashed together in its messy mix made me realize that there are three things I know for sure. … [Read more...]

Nautical Looks & Swimmingly Good Style with Trunkettes

I have been on an unabashed navy and white kick the last few weeks. I can't seem to stop putting the two colors together.  It's classic summer style that always looks crisp and elegant. It can be dressed up or down depending on the mood or occasion and I am just in love with it.  Even better is that the nautical look is back big time this spring and summer season.   LOOK 1 … [Read more...]

Scenes from Mom 2.0 Summit

Mom 2.0 14

I'm back from Atlanta and the wonder that is the Mom 2.0 Summit 2014! So much love. So much fun.   It was a whirlwind.  When is a conference not a giant swirl of lights, colors, noise, good talks and fun events?  When you plant a few hundred of the most talented women bloggers, some of the biggest in the industry, in one location (in our case it was the Ritz Carlton, Buckhead property in Atlanta) you know you are in good company, fine brands and massive brain power. Soak it up like a sponge. Go forth and prosper. Geek out as needed.  For me, that can be a lot. Also, bring a sweater and pack snacks. Know that what you are experiencing is the culmination of many hours of long, hard work done by some truly dedicated ladies who believe in the power of our voices and … [Read more...]

Spring Trends, Packing & Mom 2.0 Summit

Months ago I mentioned that things were brewing for me and I was excited about what 2014 would bring. I'm pleased to announce that for the past month I've been blogging for my favorite blogging conference, the Mom 2.0 Summit. By far one of the best conferences I have ever attended in my blogging career, Mom 2.0 is in Atlanta this year and with it comes a fabulous Garden Party at the Estate and sponsored by Dove. While not a fashion blogging conference like LuckyFABB, Mom 2.0 attendees bring it when it comes to dressing each day. I'm so honored, pleased and just plain old excited to be writing for this fantastic event that begins this Thursday!! Here's a little bit of what I've been doing! … [Read more...]

The Tuxedo Shirt

Friday night had me running around throwing kids into the tub, ironing tuxedo shirts and making dinner and phone calls all at once. It was more than a three ring circus but it was all for a good reason. TD was in her long-awaited talent show at her school. Her group, having picked the song last November, had spent the last few months diligently practicing their version of "What Does the Fox Say." I knew I had to get everything in order before she and I left for the school while her sisters and Dad stayed home until the show was ready to begin. I hadn't done my hair that day, I was too busy with life and this show. I wasn't dressed for leaving the house. I decided to just run with the first thing that popped into my head. A thrifted, brand-new, starched and never worn ladies tuxedo … [Read more...]

Spring Needs & Wants

Hey! Guess what? It snowed. Again. It better be the last snowfall. It was super great fun because the first flakes started to drift down just as I was heading out the door to my friend's 30th birthday party. She was having a wine tasting with a sommelier, cake and lots of yummy cheeses and even some gluten-free crackers for me. She also had a mechanical bull rental for entertainment, which everyone enjoyed. It had been far too long since I had seen her and I needed to make that hour trek into the country. As I hit the back roads, the trees were already decorated in white. Deer crossed the roads in groups of one, two and then six. It was a bit magical. I was enchanted and really happy I ventured out, even if an inch or two was already on the ground at her place. … [Read more...]

Whatcha Wearing Wedensday- Sunshine & Rays

I write this on another day of school closures due to even more snow. It is safe to say that the dose of brilliant sunshine I just had was just what the doctor ordered. Time to get away and let go of the daily grind is always needed. I love tiny trips like this so much because it is often the best time for me to let go of emails, work deadlines and let my brain just go wherever it needs to without distraction. The best ideas often come from these trips. While H was in seminars and break-out sessions I was sleeping in, running by palm trees and reading magazines that were previously in a holding pattern on my nightstand. In other words, total bliss. … [Read more...]
