I'm re-posting this blog post, "I'm Losing My Hair. Is My Mirena to Blame?" today because after all this time it is still the most-searched post. I'm years out from my Mirena being removed and one kid later. Ahem. It took almost a year but my hair did grow back. The symptoms like weight gain, feeling like I was being electrocuted and having a hard time focusing stopped almost as soon as my Mirena was removed. Some people love this low-dose hormone birth control but it isn't for everyone. It's typical to lose your hair after you have a baby. It happened with TD and then again with The Comedian. It's also typical to see your doctor for birth control options post-baby if you are not willing to get knocked up again. When I encountered the Mirena IUD it seemed like the perfect … [Read more...]
Bing in the Classroom for Your School
In a few short weeks my little second grader will become a full-fledged third grade girl. I can't believe it. She ends the year with a full set of teeth, a few more inches on her height and a new awareness of the world around her that wasn't there a short nine months ago. Does that mean that she needs the latest celebrity gossip pop-up to flit across her computer screen in the classroom this year or next? No, it does not. Are we, as parents, powerless to stop this kind of advertising to our kids even during school hours? No, we are most certainly not! … [Read more...]
Scenes from Mom 2.0 Summit
I'm back from Atlanta and the wonder that is the Mom 2.0 Summit 2014! So much love. So much fun. It was a whirlwind. When is a conference not a giant swirl of lights, colors, noise, good talks and fun events? When you plant a few hundred of the most talented women bloggers, some of the biggest in the industry, in one location (in our case it was the Ritz Carlton, Buckhead property in Atlanta) you know you are in good company, fine brands and massive brain power. Soak it up like a sponge. Go forth and prosper. Geek out as needed. For me, that can be a lot. Also, bring a sweater and pack snacks. Know that what you are experiencing is the culmination of many hours of long, hard work done by some truly dedicated ladies who believe in the power of our voices and … [Read more...]
The Liebster Award
I was nominated for a Liebster award by Sandie at Fashonboucou, which totally made my week! Sandie has a fantastic blog that gives me ideas and inspiration for looks on a weekly basis. What is a Liebster? The Liebster Award is a way to encourage readership and followers for new or small bloggers. It gets passed around and comes with a set of guidelines. I'm finally moving along with this honor and bestowing it on others. Here are the rules: 1.Make a post about the Liebster Award and thank the blogger that nominated you. 2.State 11 interesting facts about yourself. 3.Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you. 4.Nominate 11 new bloggers with 500 or less followers. 5.Write 11 new questions for your nominees. 11 Random Facts … [Read more...]
2014 Kia Soul
Disclosure: TMC was not paid for this post. Products received are for review purposes only. Cars provided by Drive STI. Opinions are TMC's only. All new 2014 Kia Soul When I was told that the Kia Soul would be staying with us for a week during spring break, I became a little giddy. How much fun would this little car be to drive around with my girls while we did all our special activities during the week? Then, I panicked. Would I be able to fit three kids into the back of a Kia Soul? … [Read more...]
When the Cypress Whispers and More
The first weeks of spring walloped us with lots of snow and then torrential rains. We've spent a lot of time indoors tucked away into couches, corners and under bedcovers reading up on warmer places and dreaming of the future of our little space when temperatures begin to rise and the sun comes out. Here are some of our good finds. … [Read more...]
What We Are Reading This Month
Disclaimer: TMC was not paid for this post. These are books we are reading on our own with the exception of Homemade Cleaners and Rainbow Loom Madness, which are not sponsored but review items. Opinions on all items are TMC's only. I've said it before and I will say it again. We are a reading house. There are books on tops of counters, sideboards, coffee tables, night stands and yes, the bookcases. Magazines, newspapers, kindles and tablets along with real paper books litter every room of our house and it isn't too difficult to find someone reading at any given time. I love it. I wouldn't have it any other way. That being said, we go through A LOT of books all the time and at a rapid rate. Here's some of what we are reading right now. … [Read more...]
My Valentine’s Day Treats
I'm gearing up for Valentine's Day by buying all the necessary cards, crafting tools, baking items and other assorted goodies and treats. It gets me so excited to start this planning and do these things for others. Sometimes I wish it was ALL I did. Then, I decided to create a handy little cheat sheet (ahem) for me. Because why not? I'm so in love with pink this year, which is beyond bizarre since normally the color makes me cranky, so I'm just accepting it and moving on. This color obsession can't last more than one season, right?! … [Read more...]
There Was That One Time….
I used to write real posts on here, I swear. They had humor, heart and a whole lot of messiness. I forget that sometimes when I'm trying to fill space. When I think about writing those posts today I don't even know where to begin because the funny stories, the sweet moments are all just chucked on Facebook and Instagram via quick pics and fast fodder. Remember when... I got crafty. Sort of. We helped a three-toed cat. In our own special way. I decided I needed to be Good Enough to be Enough. Shared a long ago memory. Things You Shouldn't Do. Check back tomorrow for some Whatcha Wearing Wednesday! … [Read more...]
Psst! It’s 2014 Y’all!
You can't do anything or go anywhere or read or watch anything right now without hearing that it is now 2014 and time for a fresh start! A blank slate. A new regime! EAT YOUR LETTUCE! As my husband's grandmother likes to say, "Whatever." I'm not being bitter or down. Quite the opposite. But I don't fall into the camp that makes vision boards, resolutions or pins ideas for a new year, new you. Instead, while I sit working on this first day back at school for the girls (OHMYGODTHEQUIET!), I relish the silence but still miss their fracas. I think about how this morning during my devotions I kept thinking and seeing the word, peace, float through my mind. I want it coursing through my heart even more this year than last. And last year was pretty great. I cannot … [Read more...]
