On Being a Fit Parent

I didn't set out to be a fit parent.  I just wanted to lose the baby weight.  The 40 pounds that had accumulated on my 5'6" small-boned frame didn't sit well with me or my jeans.  I joined Weight Watchers and went back to the gym.  A year later I was in the best shape of my life. Take that no muscle-tone, size 5 and 25 year-old self! In the beginning I just wanted to fit in my old clothes and get back to doing what I did before I had TD.  I did the Avon Walk twice before her and after too.  I hit the gym regularly, enjoying the child-free time and clarity that only sweating or yoga can give me. … [Read more...]

My Paltry Attempt at Food Blogging

July 14, Bastille Day, sent me off on a bit of a culinary spree.  I wanted to make the girls something that went beyond my own tastes of the day as a child (doughboys with maple syrup with a dash of confectioners sugar) and start something new.  I decided to make Madeleine's. … [Read more...]

Fifty Shades of Summer

I don't want to say we are in the doldrums of summer but the combination of intense heat and our busy schedule has left us exhausted. The girls have begun their camp schedules this week and it is a revolving door of a house. I sort of welcome the minor reprieve to have just two kids versus three at various times. I think I am going to enjoy spending more time on each kid versus doling out attention all at once in a harried sort of way.  Photos from my Fifty Shades of Summer series after the jump. … [Read more...]

What I Wore Wednesday

Dude.  I .  Well... I'm at a loss. I thought after being away for about a week I would feel all invigorated and want to just jump back into life and work. Meh.  Not so much. Life, yes.  I mean save the laundry and grocery shopping with three handsy kids who move like molasses in January but horray for bubbles! Baking! Pool time and reading books on the couch together when the afternoon sun heats up our little 'hood to scorching. … [Read more...]

Fifty Shades of Summer

If August is a constant month of Sundays then July must be a slew of Saturdays.   The month of July, that first week when we celebrate the Fourth, is when it always feels like, "Yes! This is summer. June has nothing on you July!"  Each week I'll be posting pictures from my series, "Fifty Shades of Summer."  We might get as racy as seeing a photo of me in a bathing suit but I can't promise anything. Let's go! … [Read more...]

How Do You Know?

They say that there are certain moments when you just know that a person is right for you. I believe this statement to be true too. About two weeks into knowing H, on a rainy Saturday afternoon, I called him up to see what he wanted to do later that night. When I asked him what he was doing at that moment he said, "I'm watching When Harry Met Sally on TV. I love this movie!" It was the same thing I was doing while talking to him. We both laughed about it and how we had to watch it together via phone until at least the 'Casablanca' scene with they are also on the phone watching a movie. It was then that I knew. I knew this guy was different and someone I wanted to know more. It's been 14 years. We still like watching this movie together. I'm a sucker for 'You've Got … [Read more...]

Sun Worthy Beach Totes for Less

I know that summer is already upon us but if you are like me you suddenly realize that you used last summer isn't working any more. You need somethin fresh, new or just bigger!  I know that is the case with me and all our towels, sunscreen, goggles and toys that we are lugging around daily to swim class, spray parks and pools.  I'm using the bigger style from L.L. Bean for all that but I've fallen in love with the aqua canvas one below when I'm going solo.   Beach totes by veamason featuring tote handbags … [Read more...]
