My First Half-Marathon
New Year's Day 2012 I decided to go the completely typical route and challenge myself physically by signing up for a half-marathon. My first half-marathon. My first set of double-digit miles would now be firmly set under my running belt. I was going great. I was training like a mother. I felt amazing and lost 10 lbs. … [Read more...]
Sabotage and Some Damn Good Times
When Sarah told me that Adam Yauch (MCA) from the Beastie Boys had passed away we were at Mom 2.0 finishing up lunch. "Well, this just sucks." I thought eloquently. Then I went to my room and got mad at the hotel internet connection as I tried to watch 'Sabotage' on YouTube. That video used to make my f*ckin' day when it first debuted. … [Read more...]

Because Life Starts Now
The other day I felt such a feeling of frustration. I'm continuously telling my girls that if they want something in life be it today or tomorrow they have to go out and get it. "Ask for it! You want something? Ask. Don't just wish for what you want because as Mammy from 'Gone with the Wind' said, "Wishin' ain't gettin'." As a child who never asked for what they wanted, just wished and hoped for mind-reading, and always felt dissatisfied I have turned into an adult who is always working to change this type of attitude and behavior. So many of us don't and I see it everyday. Dissatisfied with jobs, marriages, friendships and our bodies. Yet we just continue to plod on in our old behavior, wishing for a miraculous change. Newsflash! Life is what YOU make of it. The following is from an … [Read more...]
Looking the Part
One of my grandmother's passions was music. She also loved the color purple. Lilacs, lavender were a particular favorite. Her bedroom was always done up in these shades. As I was packing for the trip up north to Rhode Island last week I wanted to find small ways to honor her while we were there. It didn't take long for me to parlay one of my loves- nail polish into one of those ways. … [Read more...]
