A Tiny Dictator Turns Six

Six, as a child, seems like such a big deal. You think you are so grown-up and out in the world.  Move over baby-ish five!  Enter SIX!  Land of lost teeth, riding the bus, reading your own books, learning to tell time and wishing more than ever for a room of your own. At least in TD's case. … [Read more...]

To My Shame-Part II

Comedian Russell Brand once said that you can gloss over anything bad you have done if you preface the confession with, "To My Shame". I've done this in the past. … [Read more...]

Like Mother, Like Daughter

And I cringe each time I see this picture TD brought home from Kindergarten. I asked her what everything was and she looked at me with a huge smile and said, "Accessories!" What do I expect really? She sees this stuff coming into our house, minus the crown, on an almost daily basis. At least she didn't say, "Um, must-have's Mom! Duh!"  That would have made me throw out all my mascaras, crowns, and lip gloss. Heh.   … [Read more...]

Valentine’s & Birthday’s Too!

It's Valentines Day. The day where we post Valentine's on each others bedroom doors.  When we wake up we are greeted by construction paper hearts, stickers and little surprises.  TD and The Comedian woke up to flowers from their Dad and blue and pink nail polish from me.  We'll frost sugar cookies later today.  I love a day full of reds and an excuse to be sappy in the middle of a cold, gray February day.  It always cheers me. It is also my Dad's birthday.   Still, one of my favorite photos of my Dad and I.  Happy Birthday Dad!!! I love you! … [Read more...]

With Open Arms

Last night as I put the girls to bed I asked them if anyone had a special prayer they wanted to add. I do this every night and it usually is answered with, "Yes! Please ask God to heal the skin on my toe that hurts." or it becomes a request for all the candy in the world. Last night was different. Last night TD answered, "Yes, Mommy, let's say a prayer for your friend Susan. Let's pray that when she arrives in heaven she is welcomed with open arms." She is five, people. Five. I couldn't even hold back the tears that crept into my eyes, the tears that have now formed again as I type this post. I climbed up her bunk bed ladder and gave her another hug. I kissed her forehead, wetting it with tears of admiration and love. I told her I loved her very much, that she is so so … [Read more...]

I’m Giving Away a Rabbit!

No, not that kind of rabbit.  Though that one is quite handy too. The Electric Rabbit by Metrokane is a rechargable corkscrew with electronic display.  It makes pulling corks easy and with it I'm throwing in a Rabbit Wine Preserver (a vacuum pump and stopper with vacuum guage) which allows you to see the vacuum and one really cool on-glass red wine aerator!  My MIL got a real kick out of that last one over the holidays.  It still makes me laugh each time I use it. All total it is a $100 value and all you have to do to enter is the one or more of following. The more you do , the more chances you have to win! You can comment to enter too! 1. Follow me on Networked blogs (yup, that blue button on the right) If you already do that- THANKS!  You can enter by following me on … [Read more...]

Thirty Days of Running

My email pinged, alerting me to the fact that there was something new in my inbox.  A note from 'Map My Run' announced a congratulations.  I had been running regularly for a solid month and had logged over 50 miles. I was pleased and then I thought, "Huh. Only fifty?" Then another voice said, "Seriously!? You are going to put that down? Did you run that much in December?  No, you did not." Not to mention the fact that many of those runs were logged on a treadmill forcing me to tow two kids with me and all their gear up and down three flights of gym stairs before and after each workout.  That is one of my biggest de-motivators right there. It was my first of many goals this year and I made it.  I ran at least three times a week for a month.  I made the goal, I stuck with … [Read more...]

You Can Never Do Enough

It is at times like this that I feel so futile and far away.  I feel as if there is just never enough I can do.  My friend Susan, needs all the well wishes, prayers, good vibes and feelings of love and healing sent her way.  With all my heart, body and soul I am praying that hospice will heal her. Her latest blog post is simply amazing.  Even if you have never read her blog before I believe you will be inspired by her courage. I love you Susan.  You give others strength. … [Read more...]

My Sick Need

You would think I would be all organized when it comes to my desperate love/psychosis/addiction and over all sick need for nail polish. Clearly you would be mistaken. The sad thing is that this isn't even all of them.  Overflowing from the bag the remainder litter my bathroom cabinets and product review bins.  Funny thing about that- they are all minis. Even my polishes are fertile myrtles. Three kids in a townhouse and I don't have room to keep them in the fridge (really.  some people do this. what do they have three bottles?)  or let them loose on a counter top or even lined in a draw.  I need help! Suggestions frantically accepted. … [Read more...]

One Lazy SOB

When you decide that you are going to put your all into your work.  Things get left undone. You make one pot pie and the whole kitchen decides it needs to join in. When you decide that you are also going to train for a half-marathon, the laundry monster takes up some real estate.  Like a bathtubs worth of real estate because your ass (is it smaller yet, huh, huh?) is always at the gym logging treadmill miles. Look! Parts of the beast are moving into other baskets! It can't be stopped! Don't let this paltry amount fool you into thinking this is the end.  Oh no, it is residing in corners, on shelf ledges, on stairs and on couches.  There might even be some in an actual hamper.  Gasp! My floors are a crumby, sticky mess.  My bathrooms have enough toothpaste in the sinks to fill a … [Read more...]
