Learning to Say Yes More

I can be somewhat rigid when it comes to schedules and the way I like to go about my days. I plan the week, I plan our meals, I plan blog posts (except for the day I'm actually scheduled to co-host a blog link-up! that's when I decide to head out of town for a long weekend and shut down. WHAT?!), I plan when I do my back to school, holiday shopping right down to the time and day. OK, maybe I am a lot rigid.  I section out every day with plans.  Eesh. When I decided to take a bit of a long weekend with just the my girls and 'say yes' during that time, I had no idea if it would make life and driving a whole lot more fun or just a trip on the crazy train. We've got one day left on this trip and this is what I've learned. … [Read more...]

Whatcha Wearing Wednesday – My Fight, My Cause

I believe in not always going with the status quo.  It wasn't always that way. There were many times that no matter what I thought or how I fought, how much noise I made, I felt muted. No one saw the signs, no one saw the bruises. And in a strange way, that often takes a lot to understand, neither did I. I could think of my time being abused by someone who I thought loved me as lost years, but I refuse. Instead, I believe it made me stronger. I got over it. I somehow found the strength that was so many times dormant to say no. No more. One day, I just broke away. I didn't know the damage that had been done to me and wouldn't for a while. when I did I was lucky to have the support needed, the resources to get away and being to heal. It took far longer than I would ever think to … [Read more...]

Maintaining My Back-to-School Sanity

Disclosure:  This post was sponsored by The Motherhood for review and educational purposes only. All thoughts and opinions are TMC's only. Last week I decided to start my back-to-school shopping. As I strolled into the store I saw a sign reading, "Virginia Tax Free Day!" Oh, what a happy, lucky coincidence! I would buy my school supplies, coupons in hand and all three kids hanging off the cart and not have to pay taxes. Bonus! Clearly, my intuition failed me. As I walked through the store it was quiet and empty up front. Had a zombie apocalypse occurred without my knowledge? Should I find something sharp to beat off the brain-eaters we might encounter as we selected broad-tip markers? Wait. What is that buzzing sound? That my friends would be the total mayhem that was taking … [Read more...]

Disclaimer: TMC was not paid for this post. Products received are for review purposes only. Opinions are TMC's only. I can't think of a better way to introduce you, my readers, to the newest part of The Mummy Chronicles (TMC) than by debuting the Cars section with the 2013 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid (I know!). I hope you enjoy reading about the features, likes, dislikes and findings as I continue to explore the world of driving, the auto industry and cars of all shapes and sizes.   I want to hear what you think, love and questions you may have about cars too.  Let's get … [Read more...]

Whatcha Wearing Wednesday

I traveled to Chicago for Blogher 2013 last week and took some pics of a few of my outfits.  I was quite happy that I managed only a carry-on sized bag for the conference and didn't need to use my second duffel that I had packed on the route home.  It was also the first year that I didn't buy anything new to wear to the event.  No costumes, sweet dresses or anything else were needed.  When I mentioned on Twitter that I had packed only two pairs of shoes my friend Jodi declared, "Two pairs of shoes for BlogHer?  You win at life."  Maybe just in packing skills. Travel Day … [Read more...]

The Challenge to Change

Disclosure:  TMC was sponsored by MinuteClinic to attend Blogher 2013.  Reviews are done without compensation and all opinions are my own.  I can't think of a better time to get back into a challenging new workout or change-up one than after a trip. Whether it is for work or vacation your body is ready for something different when you return home.  It might be something you dread at first (ME! I DO!) but if you just push yourself to get started, to put on the clothes, go outside or into the gym to a class you have never tried before, you will discover a new energy that you did not have prior to that workout.  Trust me, it's true.  New energy and exhilaration mixed with exhaustion but still Awesome with a capital 'A'. … [Read more...]

Staying Fit 5 Minutes at a Time

Fall Turkey Trot 2012 I'm running around Chicago, participating in Blogher13 today, hustling a bit here and there and working with the awesome team that is MinuteClinic while finding ways to spread health.  Today's post is brought to you by guest contributor Sara Dawkins and her take on how to stay fit in just a small amount of time.  A little bit can go a long way!  … [Read more...]

Whatcha Wearing Wednesday- Stitch Fix

Is there anything more exciting than a Stitch Fix box delivered to your door? Well, the answer to that is a bit complicated. I LOVE getting that little box in the mail. "Oooh...what's inside?" my brain buzzes. I dream of Breton-striped tops and swishy skirts with cute accessories. I rip open the box and squeal in delight as I sift through the layers of soft and fluttery fabrics, chunky knits and um... long sleeves and sweaters? What the what?! … [Read more...]
