Running Back into Shape

Getting my miles back one at a time.   It’s been a while since I have done a fitness post.  That doesn’t mean I have been kicking back and not working out. That is not my style.  It just means I have been squeezing in a lot of different workouts and trying new things. Hello, Ballet Barre! You make my hamstrings sing!  Now that the weather is nicer I have started running again.  Getting back into running means a number of things for me, like the fact that I have a race on Sunday at the old prison and I just can’t stop saying to people, “Sorry, I’m busy on Sunday. I’m running at the prison!”  Relax. It is no longer housing the county’s top inmates.  It is now a converted art space with a museum. I’m also desperate to find new spring and summer running gear.  … [Read more...]

Last night we surprised the girls and took them to see the latest Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus at the Patriot Center.  It was the first time that the whole family enjoyed the show too.  Everyone was finally of age to sit still! Jet & Gray

I love the idea of melding fashion and cars together. They are two of my favorite things. Many times when I look at a car a whole slideshow of images flash through my brain. Music mixes with colors, patterns and clothing to form a solid set of feelings towards that vehicle. The clothing can run anywhere from iconic looks to everyday style are right there playing out in my brain as I take in all the aspects of that particular automobile. I cannot be the only one who does this when they see a car or truck. How else did car show booth babes develop? When I woke up yesterday it was gray outside and I just felt like matching the day. … [Read more...]

When the Cypress Whispers and More

The first weeks of spring walloped us with lots of snow and then torrential rains. We've spent a lot of time indoors tucked away into couches, corners and under bedcovers reading up on warmer places and dreaming of the future of our little space when temperatures begin to rise and the sun comes out. Here are some of our good finds. … [Read more...]

The Tuxedo Shirt

Friday night had me running around throwing kids into the tub, ironing tuxedo shirts and making dinner and phone calls all at once. It was more than a three ring circus but it was all for a good reason. TD was in her long-awaited talent show at her school. Her group, having picked the song last November, had spent the last few months diligently practicing their version of "What Does the Fox Say." I knew I had to get everything in order before she and I left for the school while her sisters and Dad stayed home until the show was ready to begin. I hadn't done my hair that day, I was too busy with life and this show. I wasn't dressed for leaving the house. I decided to just run with the first thing that popped into my head. A thrifted, brand-new, starched and never worn ladies tuxedo … [Read more...]

Converse Two Ways

Let's face it. I run around a lot with my kids. I work in the wee hours of the morning and then for a few hours before they leave for school I'm in full Mom-mode. I work a few more hours and then it is back into that mode by mid-afternoon. As much as I love a life beyond flats and low-heeled shoes it just doesn't happen all that often. I love how Lindsey from The Pleated Poppy always shows off her white low-top converse kicks. I might have to finally pick up a pair for the summer which I'm determined will be more laid back fun than me asking for time to work as the kids do "busy" activities. The days of the girls being small and wanting to be around me and H are fleeting. I should soak them up with as much summer sun, long days and time by the water as much as I possibly can. So bring … [Read more...]

Casual Weekend Style

We finally had a bit of sunshine this weekend. It was glorious to be able to spend Saturday outside with friends, while the kids ran around for hours. We all just soaked up the sun. Sunday, while cooler, was still better than the snow that fell all day today. Again. I had my oldest daughter snap a few pics of this outfit because I love the lightness of this white sweatshirt and my distressed jeans. … [Read more...]
