Whatcha Wearing Wednesday

One day I was running down the path and the leaves were on fire with their golden bursts of reds, oranges and yellows.  It was magnificient and made me smile each time I gazed up at them.  In just a matter of days almost of all of them are now swirling around the blocks of our neighborhood, creating tempting piles to jump in and even beating us in the face with the high winds that have kicked up. It feels as if winter is already on its way. Queue the outfit below. All warm knits and high boots that keep the feet warm as I battle a cold. … [Read more...]

You Don’t Have to Break Bad to Get a Healthy Home

Disclosure: I participated in this program on behalf of Seventh Generation and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own. Ahem! I am fully admitting right now that I'm going to climb atop my precarious little soapbox and give you a small spiel.  Don't worry, it won't take long and I swear I don't actually bite.  I drove my neighbors and friends crazy for a while, I will cop to that, but who doesn't when they realize they have the power to change something in small ways but that produces a big impact? I'm talking about the toxins and chemicals that are in your home. Lurking under sinks in the obvious places but also in the not so obvious places like the umbilical cord of a newborn child. SAY WHAT?  … [Read more...]

Attention Must Be Paid

I feel like these words, this simple phrase, totally lifted from O magazine this month just resonates with me.  From the attention we pay to our newborn child or brand new puppy to the attention we give to our partner on a daily basis.  That attention is the root to the devotion we so often seek and crave. I'm letting it just sink in and ruminate within me in hopes that it will bubble over into real and faithful action.   … [Read more...]

Whatcha Wearing Wednesday Jewel Tones

This week it is all about following the leader. The leader in jewel tones, that is.  No one is showing that off better than the Trend Spin link up at Walking in Memphis in High Heels.  I love, love, love this blog!  I found it through The Pleated Poppy WIWW and I've been hooked on it ever since. It was perfect timing too because I was standing in my closet with limited time wondering what to wear for a day that had me going to a parent-teacher conference and then having friends over.  What would be versatile, stylish and easy? That’s when I realized how much custom wardrobes simplify those moments, giving me ready-to-go options that actually fit my lifestyle. … [Read more...]

Sweet Cravings 50 Seductive Desserts for a Gluten Free Lifestyle

S'mores Tartlettes When I texted my friend last week that I was making S'mores Tartlettes she replied, "Why are you doing that when there are only two days left before Halloween?!"  I told her I was a glutton and left it at that. I didn't mention that these were sinfully delicious, ganache tartlettes that were also gluten-free. I needed to try them. Yes, needed.  Oh yes, indeed.  … [Read more...]

BV Nine Platinum Anti-Aging Bee Venom Cream

Disclosure:  TMC was not paid for this post.  Products received are for review purposes only.  Opinions are TMC's only.   I think I first hear about bee venom for anti-aging on Gwyneth Paltrow's website, GOOP.  Don't get all rankled at the mere mention of GP, I know isn't always easy to swallow.  However, the bee venom was something that stuck with me.  I'm not about to inject anything in my face.  Not at this point in my life or wallet.  But the BV-9 Platinum, the first 100% active ingredient skin cream using injectable grade bee venom peaked my curiosity. After all, I have this pesky dark spot (running without sunscreen, I think.) and I want it to fade from sight and memory. … [Read more...]

Whatcha Wearing Wednesday- Boo at the Zoo with Ugg

Disclosure: TMC was given shoes courtesy of Ugg Australia as well as tickets to Boo at the Zoo as part of review. No compensation was received. Opinions are TMC's only. Why do I love what I do? For moments like the one my family and I enjoyed this past Saturday night when we got the chance to go to the sold-out Boo at the Zoo at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. While I have always wanted to take the girls I wasn't into the whole toting wee ones around in the dark past bedtime, but they are older now. When Ugg Australia contacted me last week asking if the whole family wanted to pick out some new shoes and trek around tricking and treating at the zoo, I did not hesitate. … [Read more...]

Giving In But Not Giving Up

I could feel my temper rising and my nerves flaring up as a bitter little voice in my head screamed, "No school on Tuesday! Again! Really?  I mean come on! That is one of my only two actual work days and I have to keep giving them up?!"  I wanted to scream out loud.  Instead I whispered, "Son of a bitch!" as I glared at The Fifth Element and Comedian's school calendars. I had already forgotten my phone at home that morning due to starting the day with some serious early risers cutting into my fleeting and precious work time. I was frazzled, out of sorts and generally a bit screechy. We left the house in a rush and I cursed to myself on the car ride to school for losing the half hour between drop-off times for both girls where I return emails from my phone.  I try very hard to segment my … [Read more...]

Whatcha Wearing Wednesday- Away Weekend

You only have to read the last few posts to know that I'm a bit obsessed with fall and all its goodness.  October is my absolute favorite month from the chill in the morning air to the way the sun shines a softer golden color than the white hot heat of summer.  All the colors I love are showcased during this time and my love for Halloween seems to grow more each year.  I'm just itching for the days when I can wear creepy costumes again without freaking out my kids. It is also the perfect time to get away.  H had a work trip down south in the Winston-Salem part of North Carolina. I decided to tag along and check out the changes to the High Point area as I went to school back when overalls and plaid shirts were cool and worn three sizes too big. We tacked on the weekend and headed to … [Read more...]
