I try not to make New Year's resolutions because the idea just makes me cranky. Yet, there is always something lurking in the back of my mind that I want to accomplish or try for during the year. Spring break last week provided me with more opportunities to work out, read books about this first British female to summit K2, which helped me to be more productive than I could of ever imagined. I was halfway through the week and realized, "I've worked out every day! YES!" And I rocked that routine mixing it up with ME, running and weights everyday but Sunday when we traveled. I typically don't go to the gym at night with the kids but last week I said, "Screw it!" Almost a year ago it took a six year-old having overhearing a conversation between H & I about how when I ate foods with gluten my ovarian cysts were worse. I've read that the more rage you have in you the harder you need to work physically. I must have a lot of rage because I am in love with the new class at my gym called, R.I.P.P.E.D. As part of my lazy New Year's resolutions I wanted to see if I could get in really great shape this year. Actually see some definition in my arms and you know, not just lose a size or something. I wanted to gain endurance. To get there I decided I needed to take a class that actually scares me. There's Jungshin but that scares me in the way that it has us using fake swords and suddenly all I can picture is George Michael using a lightsaber in his garage again. So, R.I.P.P.E.D. Part of being a parent, to me, is being healthy. Healthy in body and mind, as much as you can be. I won't say it is easy but it is definitely worth it. The strength, energy, stamina and ability to lug kids and groceries and get a better nights sleep all because I exercise on a regular basis makes me feel a thousand times saner and balanced. Plus, my kids love the ridiculous insanity of the kid zone at the gym. It's a win-win. I'm not one to post recipes but every once in a while I have something to share. As part of my fit parent routine I have incorporated this protein shake into my weekly menu. It's fast, easy and tastes great. Even better, it involves Autocrat Coffee Milk Syrup. Yum! Ingredients (Place everything in the blender.) 1 cup skim milk 1 banana 1 handful of spinach leaves, torn into pieces 1/2 tbsp flax-seed 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (any type) Drizzle of Autocrat Blend until smooth.
