A Little Motivation

When it comes to fitness I have been off my game this summer. Sure, I've been working out on a regular basis but I haven't pushed myself in the last month. I stopped running regularly when we started to move and afterwards it was the dead of winter, a new neighborhood with no consistent sidewalks and a bunch of excuses to fuel the 'no more running' fire. Except, once a runner, always a runner. I think that same mind over body thing that can sometimes derail a good run will also bring you right back around. The way I feel after a run lasts more than a few hours and I love how it changes my perspective and gets me out and about and into the elements. It clears my head and keeps me active while giving me a bit of alone time too. And I'm all about anything that offers up less stress, better … [Read more...]

BODYARMOR- The Alternative Sports Drink

Soccer and lacrosse may be over in our house but that doesn't mean we have ceased all activity around here. In fact, I think we are even more active in the summer months as a family. Whether it is bike riding, days at the pool spent swimming and playing, games in the backyard or going on walks with the dog it never stops. You know what else never stops? The request for sports drinks? On the way to the game they ask for it. On the way home from a game they ask for it. After playing outside in the yard for five minutes they ask for it. Packing for the pool? They ask for a sports drink. I kind of started to hate it. I hate all the dyes, the artificial stuff pumped into them. All of it. I was intrigued when BODYARMOR sent me a six-pack of various sports drinks to try. What is … [Read more...]

ColorProof My Workout

When it comes to keeping up with my fitness I can be pretty serious. I eat right and give my body the fuel it needs per workout and pack healthy snacks to get through my day. I carry water with me everywhere to stay hydrated and healthy. If I'm running I'll wear my running shoes instead of my cross-trainers. It's all about using what you need and meeting the demands for that level of exercise. That means that even the products I use pre and post-workout have to work hard too. ColorProof 'DrySpell' Color Protect Dry Shampoo is my go-to product on the mornings I head to the gym and don't have time to wash my hair but just grab a quick shower after. I use it on the days I have to run out the door to get the kids to school and run errands but have no time to dry and style my hair. It's a … [Read more...]

Back in the Game

With all the running around, squatting and going up and down stairs while lifting heavy cans of paint you would think I would not feel so out of shape but I do.  The reality behind getting one house ready to rent, moving everything out of it and your family while renovating another house is that there isn't time for much else. Going to the gym despite my best efforts has just not fit into the schedule. … [Read more...]

Running Scared

What do DC Runners do to celebrate the month of October and the fabulous fall season? We take part in the ghoulishly fun twilight run at the Congressional Cemetery, naturally. I'm long overdue for a fitness post and the Dead Man's Run is the perfect way to throw one in. It's a race I have wanted to do since it began four years ago for a lot of reasons. … [Read more...]

Only the Essential

It's been a while since I have posted anything regarding "my fitness".  I spent the last two weeks of summer barely making a dent in my workout wear.  Now that school is back in session and a routine is being established the sweaty laundry is piling up. I'm so excited to show off some of my new items from SQN Sport. What's SQN stand for?  It's Latin for "only the essential". That's what SQN Sport is all about too.  Using the economy of style for sportswear.  And they do it well. … [Read more...]

Running = Freedom. Steps to Better Running

This is what I feel like when I run. It is a feeling of freedom. I take notice of the world around me when I'm not whizzing past it at the speed of light. I feel exhilarated when it is done, that it is done and I lived to run another day. That my body is strong enough to do it and love it. It brings me back out for another run. And this is what I actually look like. … [Read more...]

Finding Your Fitness Motivation

I freely admit that every once in a while I fall off the workout bandwagon. My fitness motivation just gets deleted. I don't actually stop working out I just end up shortening the duration of my work outs.  A combination of factors creates these mini-workouts.  Our daily schedule gets crowded, I lost track of time in the morning and by afternoon our schedule doesn't allow me a moment alone much less time to sweat.  Getting to the gym?  The travel time kills my motivation before I even grab my gym bag.  Three weeks will go by and suddenly I'm eating in a not so healthy way, the workouts get even shorter and then I can't even do the ones I did just a month before without getting totally winded and spent for the day. Let's face it. I'm not 22 or even 32.  The body changes rapidly but doesn't … [Read more...]
